The team at Showplace Cabinetry Design Center has a way of bringing your home’s vision to life. Specializing in cabinetry, they offer full-service builds and remodels. Their main hub is located in South Dakota, where the cabinets are constructed and designers work closely with the production team. The plant also hosts designer meetings.

I sat down with designers Christy Stumbo, Jennie Claus, Marissa Meyer and Manager/Lead Designer, Jann Levinsky, to catch firsthand inspiration from them. I wanted to know about their perspective on style and how they approach projects in our diverse and growing community of homes in Colorado.

“Colorado has a variety of styles of homes,” Marissa states. “You know, you have everything from downtown Denver, with high rises that are very sleek, to homes built in 1908 that are very Victorian-esque or craftsman style from the 1920s to mid-century modern to the stuff that was built in the 90s and early 2000s. It’s such a wide range that it often comes down to the style of the house. You’re not going to put sleek modern in a 1908 house. You’re going to put in something highly decorative versus a 1920s craftsman type bungalow, where I might go with a slim rail shaker or a shaker or a slab door. There’s such a wide range of styles in our state and yet each one is a beautiful project to embrace.”

Christy adds, “And there are ways you can still bring older styles into this era through colors and textures. You might go with something a little bit more traditional on your cabinet door, but your actual stain is going to be a very current stain that embellishes a modern style throughout the room.”

“I like to think of us as cabinet and design fairy godmothers. We’re here to make clients' dreams a reality,” Marissa shares.

They also emphasize the importance of building relationships and trust when they work with their clients. From contractors to their direct line with the team in South Dakota, the designers at Showplace Cabinetry Design Center carry excitement for the final product as well as full integrity and communication along the way. They stress the importance of monitoring home value and current budget when approaching a project.

“It’s not just about enhancing the house; it’s enhancing their life,” Jann explains.

Jennie mentions that, as a designer, seeing a project in 3D helps the team visualize the possibilities because designing is all in the details.

“It’s the jewel of the job. Hardware adds personality to the cabinets. If you put a cute piece of hardware, something funky, it changes the whole flavor of what the door looks like. Faucets, too, decorative sinks in bathrooms. We have such a range of vendors. So you put it together based on budget and what will really dazzle. We don’t follow trends, we make them.” Jann says.
