What kind of ROI can homeowners expect from a fresh coat of paint on an exterior? And, an interior?
ROI generally can be both perceived and monetary in value. Perceived can mean a clean and modern look with select colors, a properly maintained home, and peace of mind for potential buyers not having to fork out money after purchasing. From a monetary point of view, new exterior paint increases curb appeal leading to the possibility of more competitive offers. According to an open-door article with words from Jennie Norris, chairwoman of the International Association of Home Staging Professionals, interior painting results in a 107% ROI with exterior at 55% ROI.
Tell us about how the quality of paint and the quality of workmanship affects the long-term success of a project.
The quality of paint ultimately affects the time before you have to repaint. Lower to standard base paints have an average life span of four to five years on average. Premium paints provide three to four years on average of additional life, which means increased color retention, dirt, and stain repellency at a fraction of the cost. Workmanship completed according to paint manufacturer specifications and industry standards is key to ensuring the durability and longevity of your investment, which can result in lower maintenance costs long term. Correct preparation such as the application of primers to raw uncoated surfaces like wood can determine the difference between having to come back to that surface several months to a few years down the road. Unlike paint, primers are designed to bond to raw unpainted surfaces and because of the formulation to increase adhesion, they do not provide color, sheen, and protection properties as paint does. Paints, on the other hand, are designed to provide color and protection from the elements but lack the properties of adhesion that primers have.
For a tight budget, which rooms should be prioritized for new paint before a resale?
Rooms to prioritize on a budget are common areas, which include everything except bedrooms. This means focusing on foyers, great/family rooms, kitchens and hallways. These are the rooms or areas that guests and family tend to see during gatherings.
What makes your company special?
80-85% of our business is word of mouth and recommendations. We believe that exceptional work, in other words providing Signature results and Signature service, doesn't go unnoticed. Focusing on solving the needs of the client, rather than your top and bottom lines, along with providing unsurpassed Signature finishes and services is key to repeat and referral work. We’re focused on restoring the paint trade through transparency, high work ethics, and setting a benchmark of how things should be done. We’re members of the Painting Contractors Association, and we're fully insured. We go the extra mile to ensure sharp lines by investing in labor and materials to lay down tape on walls and trim, which is something many other companies don’t do because of the added expense.
We give back up to 1% of proceeds to one of five non-profit charities that we partner with. We believe in making an impact on our local communities and beyond. If we keep it all to ourselves then we believe we’ve missed the mark.
