Sisset's has endured through extraordinary times, yet we've not lost our passion to bring our customers extraordinary merchandise. Many customers shopped at Melissa's former shop, Patio Designs, also in Gainesville, years ago. These customers still have the furniture they purchased then and come in to select new cushions to freshen it up. A couple of Sisset's furniture manufacturers have been in business for over 100 years...still made in the USA!
With the focus on unique pieces, one of a kind furniture designs, Sisset's brings the comfort of indoors outside. When you walk into Sisset's you sense being in a wonderful place to shop for home and patio décor including seasonal products such as pillows, candles, flags, doormats, paper products and custom floral arrangements.
"We are passionate about bringing in quality merchandise that will last and bring smiles for years and years: Talented people! Fabulous items!", shares Sisset's Owner, Melissa Glikes.
Melissa is passionate about helping homeless animals find their perfect homes. She was once the Director of the Alachua County Humane Society (now North Central Florida Humane Society) as well as a Supervisor at Alachua County Animal Care & Control. During this time, she was one of 4 grant writers that helped bring $3.7 million to be DIVIDED amongst local animal rescue groups including Operation Catnip at UF. This initial grant boosted Alachua County to be known as one of the most advanced areas in the country for animal rescue.
Other areas of animal rescue for Melissa include working with Home Van Pet Care and St Francis Pet Care-2 groups based in Alachua County which promote helping low-income and homeless people keep their animals instead of having to give them up because they are having a tough time financially. These groups are responsible for making sure that the pets are spayed/neutered and that they have adequate food, flea and heartworm supplies. Don't be surprised to see Melissa talking to a homeless person on the side of the road IF that person has a pet!! Making sure the animals, usually dogs, are spayed or neutered and are properly cared for is her passion.
Sisset's sponsors a senior animal every month at the North Central Florida Humane Society and donates to various animal rescue groups located in Alachua County. Melissa likes to keep it local and Sisset's accepts pet food and gently used or new cat and dog collars, leashes and harnesses. Melissa has 2 dogs, 2 cats and a pig. They are all rescues.
