There's something about a sunset. The sky glows with different shades of orange, pink and yellows as the sun sets across Oklahoma City, creating radiant skies full of color and light.

Oklahoma is famous for its sunsets, and in Oklahoma City, those same sunsets give a nightly show to residents and visitors alike. These brilliant colors are caused when sunlight takes a long path through the Earth's atmosphere. Violets and blues get scattered out of the sunlight path and therefore we see the sky as orange or red.

If there are dust or haze in the air, the sky may can light up pink or yellow.

The clouds, however, really make a sunset sparkle. When mid- or high-level clouds catch the last of the sunlight, the colors become vibrant and dramatic.

We've included the four best places to catch a sunset in Oklahoma City.

1. Cruise Into Night - Take in a sunset while indulging in complimentary appetizers and a drink during the Oklahoma River Cruise in Oklahoma City. Enjoy the panoramic views of the sun setting across the Oklahoma River while relaxing on a charming boat. From the water, you'll be able to catch the final moments of sun glinting off the buildings of downtown as the night lights light up downtown OKC.

2. Dance on the Bridge - Inspired by Oklahoma’s state bird, the scissor-tailed flycatcher, Skydance bridge soars over Interstate 40. The bridge is a 380-foot-long pedestrian bridge with a 197-foot-tall sculpture that glows different colors at night. It's also a nice way to watch the sun set over the city before heading out to one of the hundreds of local restaurants and bars for a date night or special occasion.

3. Lake Hefner - Talk to any longtime Oklahoma City resident, and you'll likely hear about how amazing the sunsets are over Lake Hefner. The iconic lighthouse that juts from a jetty in the lake is an "Instagrammable" bucket list shot when the sun sinks red and orange over the water. Enjoy a spectacular sunset before grabbing a cocktail and meal at the numerous restaurants around the lake.

4. Myriad Gardens - With its recognizable glass Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory, The Myriad Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City becomes awash in the glow of a setting sun. Take in the sunset while immersing yourself in the blooms and native plants at the Myriad Gardens, which also includes an urban recreation wonderland with interactive water features, a new children’s garden, a dog release area, a grand event lawn and more.
