The Texas Hill Country is home to some of the best distilleries in the country, so grab a local favorite and get mixing. For this recipe, let’s go with Treaty Oak Ghost Hill bourbon.

Ingredients:

2 ounces of Ghost Hill bourbon (or rye whiskey)

3 dashes of pecan bitters

1 ounce homemade simple syrup

Directions:

  1. Pour all ingredients in a rocks glass over a large ice cube (smaller cubes can dilute the flavors quickly) and stir.
  2. Garnish with orange peel and a maraschino cherry—enjoy!

To make simple syrup:

  1. Combine one part boiling water and one part sugar.
  2. Add brown sugar, honey, or even a circular orange slice to really make it a flavorful—your tastebuds are in charge.
  3. Let it cool and throw any extras in a mason jar for later.
