Sounds Of The Season

The Stephens Valley Church Christmas Concert is setting the tone for season’s musical soundscape.

From parties and shopping to dining and entertainment, there’s no escaping the sounds of the season. But sometimes it’s nice to escape the whirlwind of activity so that the music may be enjoyed in the meaningful context for which it’s intended.

If that sounds appealing, then the Stephens Valley Church Christmas Concert will be music to your ears, and soothing for your soul.

This year’s concert is scheduled for Sunday, December 10 at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Stephen’s Valley Church (SVC), 6000 Pasquo Road in Bellevue.

“We’ll have a choir made up of Stephens Valley Church members and a full orchestra, with about 25 pieces,” says Charlie Heimermann, SVC’s interim choir director. “Most of the musicians in the orchestra are with the (Nashville) Symphony or other orchestral groups from around town. I’ve worked with many of them previously and on a record we’ve just made.”

The program will feature several familiar pieces of traditional music that tell the story of Christmas, plus a Heimermann original in which children of church members will sing along with the choir and orchestra.

The concert isn’t the only Christmas program scheduled for this month. SVC will present a Candlelight Communion service on Christmas Eve at 4:30 p.m.

“It’s just a sweet, simple Christmas Eve service,” says SVC Administrator, John Avery. “Christmas is such a hectic time of year, but by Christmas Eve, all the hubbub is done. Gifts are fun, but this is a wonderful time to get together and to enjoy the real meaning of the season.”

This will be SVC’s third annual Christmas Concert. The public is invited and admission is free. The Fellowship Hall features open seating for up to 450 guests and a capacity gathering is expected.
