When it became clear in March of 2020 that the Covid Pandemic was going to be big, Krista Simonson had two thoughts. First, what was going to happen to her and husband Dave’s 20-year Real Estate Business, and second, what was going happen to all the other small businesses out there, particularly the restaurants they frequented? Not content to sit idly by as the economy crumbled, she and Dave took action. “If everyone could support one restaurant once a week, maybe we could all weather this together.” They then created the Facebook Page South Denver Food, and invited a couple friends. The page grew beyond friends to total strangers within two weeks, due to the positive nature of the posts, as well as the sense of community and collaboration it offered.
Anyone who took a photo of the food and tagged the restaurant would be entered into a bi-weekly drawing for a $50 gift certificate.
What encouraged them was the knowledge that supporting the economy would eventually be to the benefit of the entire community, their business included. If fact there was so much demand, they created South Denver Strong to support businesses outside of just the restaurant business.
