Special Parent’s Night Out

An Evening of Joy, Respite, and Community Connection

This May, families across Northern New Jersey gathered for an unforgettable evening of joy, connection, and community at the 26th semi-annual Special Parent’s Night Out and Special Needs Carnival, hosted by Resurgent Church in Far Hills.

Organized by the Special Parents Organization, the event provided a much-needed evening of respite for parents and caregivers of children with disabilities. While parents enjoyed a complimentary dinner for two at local restaurants in Chester, Mendham, and Bedminster, their children — including siblings — were treated to a night filled with fun, laughter, and care.

With the support of qualified volunteers from local hospitals and schools, the children participated in a variety of activities, from pony rides, hayrides, bounce houses, and face painting to painting flowerpots and canvases. A hot-air balloon ride, live music, games, a game truck, and even a visit from a fire truck made the evening truly magical.

The event also drew support from local businesses and community members. “Supporting Special Parents is deeply personal to us,” says Candace Kerr, co-owner of Sunrise Cooling and Heating. “It’s about showing up for families in our community and letting them know they’re not alone.” A longtime advocate and Friend of Special Parents, Kerr was instrumental in bringing attention to the organization and its mission.

Held at Resurgent Church’s beautiful campus on Route 206, the event was carefully planned with safety and comfort in mind, limiting participation to the first 100 families to ensure every guest received personalized attention.

Steve Coutts, Co-Founder and Director of the Special Parents Organization, emphasizes the event’s ongoing mission: to create moments of joy, provide meaningful breaks for caregivers, and strengthen the bonds within the special needs community.

As the laughter and memories from May's event continue to resonate, families are already looking forward to the next celebration of togetherness and hope.
