Melissa Curtis is Smith Lake's number one fan. She loves introducing new homeowners to lake life and stands in awe of its pristine beauty. We caught up with her for a chat about this unique destination and the real estate market.
Roswell City Lifestyle: We know Smith Lake is beautiful! What makes Smith Lake special and why is it a convenient location for a second home?
Melissa Curtis: Smith Lake is the third cleanest lake in the United States, and features stunning scenery and lots of lakeside fun! It’s located between Birmingham and Huntsville, and is only a couple of hours away from music city - Nashville, Tennessee! It’s the perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of big city life and also borders small but adorable communities with catalogs of fun things to do. The lake is the best spot for days in the sun and is delightful for wake-surfing, boating, jet skiing, and various other water-based activities.
RCL: So many (lucky) people work from home now. What makes Smith Lake a perfect outpost?
MC: Working remotely on the lake could not be easier! Nearby towns have coffee shops, grocery stores, and great shops and restaurants, including spots with free Wi-Fi. And of course, there are spots directly on the lake to visit, like Brothers On Smith Lake and the Grille at Trident Marina!
RCL: How did you first find Smith Lake?
MC: I grew up on Smith Lake, and couldn’t love lake life more! The people here have been so welcoming, and it is such a pleasure to work and live in this area. I’ve been able to build a really wonderful team with Lake League, and I’m so proud of the friendships and meaningful working relationships I’ve formed here.
RCL: You have our attention and you're the expert. Please share a bit about market activity.
MC: Waves of people from New York, California, Illinois, and more are leaving their home states and looking to relocate to greener pastures. Alabama is one of the sixth most moved-into states this year, and for good reason! Everyone is flocking to Alabama for its crazy low taxes, affordable cost of living, and sublime personality— not to mention the breathtaking scenery. Rolling hills, year-round greenery, and perfect weather during the spring and summer seasons! So don’t wait to look into houses on Smith Lake!
