Spotify Premium Rolls Out Lossless Streaming
Spotify Premium subscribers can now enjoy lossless audio streaming, with the feature rolling out
gradually from September 10. The new tier delivers up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC quality,
accessible on smartphones, tablets, computers, and compatible audio gear.
The launch starts in 12 countries—including the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Japan—and will
expand to more than 50 markets by October. Subscribers will see an in-app notification once the
option goes live in their region.
Setup is handled through Settings & Privacy → Media Quality, where users can select from five
tiers, including the new Lossless option. A small indicator will appear on the Now Playing
screen when uncompressed audio is active. The feature also supports Spotify Connect, working
with gear from Sony, Bose, Samsung, and Sennheiser, with Sonos and Amazon devices gaining
compatibility next month.
Since Bluetooth compresses streams, Spotify recommends wired connections or Wi-Fi
playback for true lossless listening.
At $11.99 per month, Spotify Premium now matches rivals Apple Music and Amazon Music,
both of which already include lossless audio at no extra charge.
