The fun thing about fashion is that it's always changing. Some seasons, completely new styles appear, while others have us reliving looks from the past. Here, we find out what's in style this spring and summer.
"We're seeing a lot of pastel colors, so those pinks, pistachios and greens from designers like Max Mara," says Erica Panagopoulos, the buyer for Pearl in Grosse Pointe Farms. "A cool coastal look is also big this spring and summer, along with elevated athleisure wear."
According to store manager, Gigi Badalamenti, linens are also hot. "We have a high-end brand of linen from Venezuela called Fabiana Pigna that people love," she says.
Pearl has a whole new line of accessories made of raffia too. "We have totes with different compartments including slats in the front to hold your beach hat," says Gigi.
Adds Erica, "Raffia is going across the board to include shoes as well - everything from a platform to a flat. Raffia is definitely on trend for a great summer look."
The boutique also started carrying Loeffler Randall. "This brand is very well-known, and the line includes shoes in natural tones with bows and pleats," says Gigi.
Along with dressier shoes, customers will also be clamoring for more comfortable, everyday footwear such as the still popular tennis shoe, but boat shoes are also back in a big way.
"For these, we just started carrying another new line called Vince®, because if you want to be on trend, you need a boat shoe," says Gigi.
Another must-have item this season is anything made from featherweight cashmere. These include sweater, shirts and lovely shawls. "We have these really luxurious travel wraps by White + Warren," says Erica. "They go over anything, so if you're heading out it's something that you can just wrap around yourself. It's very breathable, but still keeps you warm."
"There are so many really beautiful materials that have this sheared look to them, and it will even be translated into fall, as you can see on the runway shows, such as Chanel," she says.
Of course, to complement these items, the right accessories are also important to pull the whole look together. "Everything will be accentuated with statement necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, and these will be bolder than they have been in the past for that extra dazzle," says Erica. Even brooches are coming back in style.
Although there are many new and exciting styles this season, people don't have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. Instead, they can just incorporate some new items. "Doing this can refresh your wardrobe and make you look and feel like you have some brand new ensembles," she says.
Adds Gigi, "You can just get a new piece or two, like a raffia shoe or a featherweight wrap to update your whole look."
Pearl is proud to offer many new brands this season, as well as the beloved brands they have offered over the years. "Our customer is definitely someone that wants to be current, but she also wants to keep that classic look," says Erica. "So, we're adapting and bringing in a few trendier lines and pieces."
This elevated step up is the vision of Molly Valade, who revitalized the boutique. "Molly wanted a space that was comfortable for people, yet offered something different than what they could get elsewhere, which is a curated selection of stylish pieces," says Gigi.
With its amazing and knowledgeable staff, many of whom have been with the boutique for years, it will be easy to find the perfect clothes and accessories for every season.
"As always, we're going to offer a personalized shopping experience," says Gigi.
