After 14 years of catering in some of the DC region’s most iconic venues, the team behind Root & Stem Catering now has a space to call their own. Drenched in greenery and dappled sunlight, Stable & Vine sits on more than ten acres of rolling fields, just 2.5 miles from King Street in Leesburg’s historic district. The property was previously occupied by Dry Mill Winery, whose owners retired in 2023.
While Loudoun County certainly does not lack event venues, Gabriela and Craig Currie, who own Root & Stem Catering, found a need in the market to provide an all-inclusive and accessible option. “We knew that we wanted to open a venue,” says Craig, “but we needed a differentiator.
A venue and what else?” After consulting with representatives from the county’s economic development team, the decision was clear. To support the growing tourism and events sector, Leesburg needed more lodging. The barn, which previously served as a horse stable before becoming Dry Mill’s tasting room, has since been renovated to hold four private suites, providing on-site accommodations for event guests.
Root & Stem’s sustainable and seasonally driven event menus lend themselves as a natural fit to a venue surrounded by nature and farmland. As Stable & Vine’s official in-house caterer, they will have the opportunity to create new and innovative experiences that off-premise catering doesn’t always allow for.
For Gabriela, Stable & Vine feels like a homecoming in a sense. She immigrated to the United States from El Salvador at 17 years old. Like many, circumstances forced her to dive into work right away. She was immediately drawn to the kitchen and to hospitality. The warmth of well-prepared food, presented with genuine care, allowed her to feel a little bit of the home she had left behind.
“We are in the business of hospitality, and the best way to show that is to open our doors and truly welcome guests into our home,” says Gabriela. “The property is so beautiful as it is. We want to give people the opportunity to wake up here after a memorable celebration and enjoy the beauty of nature with all the comforts and conveniences of home.” Grounded hospitality is a phrase that continues to echo in meeting rooms.
To the Root & Stem team, that means luxury without pretense, balancing refinement with ease, and creating a sense of place that is an authentic extension of the community around them. Stable & Vine is booking events through the remainder of 2026 and 2027.
