Strengthening Community Connections

Exploring the many ways SRP Federal Credit Union invests in the people of the CSRA

SRP Federal Credit Union plays a vital role in the CSRA by supporting local organizations and programs as well as hosting events. In this month’s Q&A, SRP Community Impact Manager Lonzo Smith provides insight into the values that drive SRP’s involvement in the community and what types of events are happening this summer.

Why is community involvement important to SRP?

Community involvement is foundational to SRP because we are not just a Credit Union, we are a neighbor, partner, and stakeholder in the wellbeing of the 10 counties we serve. Our success is directly tied to the strength and vitality of our communities. By investing time, resources, and expertise locally, we help create opportunities for growth, resilience, and long-term sustainability that benefit everyone.

How does giving back reflect SRP’s values and culture?

Giving back is a natural extension of SRP’s values. It reflects our commitment to service, integrity, and stewardship. Our culture emphasizes doing what’s right—not just in business, but in how we show up for people. Whether it’s supporting education, environmental initiatives, or community programs, our efforts demonstrate that we care about making a meaningful, lasting impact beyond our day-to-day operations.

How do employees participate in volunteer and outreach efforts?

SRP Ambassadors are deeply engaged in volunteerism and outreach. Ambassadors regularly contribute their time and talents through organized service days, nonprofit partnerships, mentorship programs, and community events. We encourage participation by providing opportunities throughout the year and fostering a workplace culture that values civic engagement. Many of our employees also take initiative personally, reflecting a shared passion for giving back.

What community partnerships has SRP cultivated over the years?

Over the years, SRP has built strong partnerships with a wide range of organizations, including local schools, nonprofit agencies, chambers of commerce, and civic groups. These collaborations focus on areas such as education, economic development, environmental stewardship, and community health. By working alongside trusted partners, we amplify our impact and ensure our efforts are aligned with real community needs. A recent highlight, our Affinity Debit card program, is co-branded with 45 local high schools and Augusta Technical College. We have donated over $3 million dollars in unrestricted funds to affiliated schools.

What role does community involvement play in building relationships with customers?

Community involvement strengthens trust and deepens our connection with members. When people see SRP actively investing in the same neighborhoods where they live and work, it reinforces our commitment to their quality of life. These shared experiences create meaningful relationships, foster goodwill, and position SRP as more than a utility—rather, a dedicated partner in the community’s success.

What recent events has SRP sponsored?

SRP has maintained a strong and active presence in the community, with several impactful initiatives taking place just within the last few months. These include our popular Shred Fest, which helps community members safely dispose of sensitive documents, as well as continued support for organizations like Golden Harvest Food Bank and the Ronald McDonald House Charities, both of which provide critical assistance to families in need.

We’ve also invested in youth development and education through partnerships such as the Manhood/Womanhood Tour, which focuses on leadership and personal development for students, and financial education initiatives at USC Aiken and Augusta Technical College to help empower the next generation with essential money management skills. Additionally, SRP has supported healthcare efforts through involvement with the Cancer Center, reinforcing our commitment to community wellness.

These efforts are powered by our dedicated team—our SRP Ambassadors, who have collectively contributed more than 4,000 volunteer hours in 2025 alone. Their passion and service are a driving force behind the impact we’re able to make across the region.

What upcoming community initiatives and events is SRP sponsoring?

This summer, we will continue hosting our Wills & Trust Seminars, which provide valuable guidance to individuals and families on estate planning and financial preparedness. These sessions are a key part of our effort to empower members to make informed decisions for their future.

We are also proud to support youth leadership and development opportunities such as Palmetto Boys State, where students gain firsthand experience in civic engagement, as well as our involvement with the NASA Astro STEAM Camp, which inspires students to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.

In addition, SRP participates in impactful community gatherings like the UNITY Men’s Breakfast and local Juneteenth celebrations, where we engage with community members, foster connections, and promote financial wellness resources.

We are especially excited about programs like our DIG (Dreams, Imagination, and Gift) Development Program, which is designed to help individuals recognize and build on their personal and professional potential.

Finally, we support important causes through events such as Step Up Against Cancer, reinforcing our commitment not only to financial health but to the overall well-being of the communities we serve.
