Rachelle Barrios is the owner of Kitchen Wise | Closet Wise Denver, and her words reflect the company’s number one mission. From kitchens to bathrooms to closets, she builds organizational spaces for any budget, and she knows better than anyone that a clean closet leads to a clearer mind.
“We make 35,000 decisions a day, and what we pull from our closet should not be something that adds to our stress,” says Rachelle.
Rachelle creates stress-free spaces by tailoring closets to each individual’s needs, whether that’s building room for shoes, hats, ties, or even the client’s height. The closet of a retired couple will look different from the closet of a young renter, and her team accommodates those differences.
If you’re looking for everyday advice, Rachelle’s top closet tip is to sort your clothes based on her six-month, three-week system.
The first step is evaluating each item you haven’t worn in a while. “If it's been more than six months that you haven't worn it,” Rachelle says, “ask yourself, does this still fit me? Am I still in this season of my life where I need this?” If you’re unsure, she recommends moving it to the front of your closet, and “If you don't wear it for another 3 weeks, you don't need it.”
Decluttering your closet revives forgotten favorites while giving the opportunity to donate what you no longer need. According to Rachelle, all clothes deserve to be worn.
