Speaking with Devan Sedlacek, PT, DPT, owner of MoveRX Physical Therapy, for any length of time quickly reveals her passion for patient care. Caring for people and setting them on a better path forward has always been her goal.
"I love the idea of helping people stay strong for life and showing them there's a way to either reduce their risk of injury or work around it," Sedlacek said.
It's a sentiment rooted in her formative years. Born and raised in Omaha, Sedlacek was a smaller child growing up. Driven to gain and improve her strength, she eventually found her way to CrossFit and competitive powerlifting.
Reflecting on her childhood and health journey, Sedlacek said, "I think that subconsciously played a role in why I pursued what I did. I was always seeking knowledge on how to exercise and be strong."
That same dedication led her to earn a bachelor's degree in nutrition and exercise science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Sedlacek then earned a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Before long, MoveRX Physical Therapy was born.
From the start, Sedlacek envisioned a model beyond traditional physical therapy.
"Our traditional health care system is designed to treat sickness. When someone goes to physical therapy in the traditional system, we're getting them from the sickness point to good enough. I want to help someone get better than they were, even before their injury," she said.
Partnership is at the core of MoveRX.
Fostering relationships with local gyms and personal trainers is a natural extension of its approach, ensuring each individual receives personalized care from start to finish. Its fitness-forward platform is designed to keep patients moving and reduce pain, with virtual sessions also available.
MoveRX emphasizes rebuilding and resilience, offering personalized programs tailored to each client's goals. When discussing the diversity of her patients, each with unique needs and goals, Sedlacek’s voice lit up.
"I have a patient in her 80s right now! Age is really not a deterrent to us being able to stay strong," she said. "I tell people it's like putting money in the stock market—if you're investing in your health, it's just like investing in the stock market. You're going to be so thankful that you did. And the earlier, the better." She quickly added, "Never too late, either. Everyone's an athlete. We all want to be active. We all want quality of life for as long as possible. And that's where my wheelhouse is."
Today, MoveRX has three locations in the Omaha area and two physical therapists, including Shane Lentz, PT, DPT. Lentz, a former sprinter himself, specializes in working with those who want to focus on speed and athleticism. He believes “it’s important for us to be able to move quickly, no matter our age. It helps us prevent falls and maintain tendon and joint health as we age.”
Sedlacek clearly adores the community she works in and sees nothing but growth ahead. "Omaha is an amazing city and the people here are equally amazing. This city is really what has made my business thrive," she said.
