Meet the Fitness Team That’s Winning Hearts (and Awards)!

When you think of a gym, you probably picture rows of treadmills, weights clanking, and people pushing themselves to the limit. But at the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Bridgewater, fitness is about so much more than that. It’s about community, connection, and creating a space where everyone feels like they belong. Oh, and did we mention they just won Best Gym in Bridgewater this January? Yep, you heard that right—JFit is officially the top choice for fitness in town, and there’s one team member in particular who’s helping make it happen.

Meet Aviv Wagner, Assistant Fitness Director of JFit at the JCC, who’s been living and breathing Bridgewater for the past 17 years. He’s not just a fitness pro—he’s a local with a big heart, and his love for the community shines through in everything he does.

“I’ve always felt a deep connection to Bridgewater,” Wagner says with a smile. “The warmth of the people, the way everyone looks out for each other—it’s what made me want to put down roots here.”

From Member to Leader: A Journey of Passion
Wagner’s journey with the JCC started back in 2007 when he joined as a member. Fast-forward a year, and he was stepping into the role of personal trainer and fitness instructor. “When I joined, I immediately felt a sense of belonging,” he recalls. “The JCC’s inclusive, welcoming atmosphere was like a perfect fit for me, and the strong Jewish community made me feel right at home.”

It wasn’t long before Wagner's passion for fitness, his dedication to his members, and his natural leadership qualities earned him a promotion to Assistant Fitness Director. “It was such an honor to take on that role,” Wagner says. “It’s been an incredible ride, and I’m lucky to be part of such a supportive team.”

Fitness with a Smile: Wagner’s Approach
So, what sets Wagner apart from your average fitness trainer? It’s simple: his philosophy. “Fitness isn’t just about looking good—it’s about feeling good and taking care of both your mind and body,” Wagner explains. “When you treat your body well, your mental and emotional health improves too, and that leads to a positive cycle of wellness.”

Wagner’s secret sauce? A contagious positivity. “I always try to bring good energy into every session,” he says. “It’s not just about the workout—it’s about making people feel comfortable and motivated, no matter where they are in their fitness journey.” And it seems to be working, because JFit isn’t just a gym; it’s a community of people who genuinely enjoy coming together to work toward their goals.

Building Trust, One Rep at a Time
Wagner’s time at JFit has been marked by some major milestones. One of the most exciting was the gym’s recent renovation. With the addition of state-of-the-art fitness facilities, including a brand-new Fitness Center, Cardio Studio, and Functional Training areas, the JCC is now equipped to serve its members like never before. “The renovation was huge for us,” Wagner says. “It allowed us to provide more options and better experiences for our members.”

But perhaps the most memorable moment for Wagner was his promotion to Assistant Fitness Director. “It felt like a big moment in my career,” he shares. “Being promoted was a testament to all the hard work and dedication I’ve put in, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to help lead such a passionate team.”

The Bridgewater Connection
What makes Wagner’s approach to fitness so special? It’s the connection he has to the Bridgewater community. “Living here has been a huge advantage in understanding the needs of my clients,” Wagner explains. “People know me, they trust me, and I understand the values that make this town so great.” This deep community bond helps Wagner connect with his clients on a personal level, and it’s part of what makes his fitness programs so effective.

Wagner’s relationships with local families, schools, and organizations have also helped grow his clientele. “Whether it’s through word-of-mouth or working with parents of kids I’ve trained, being part of this community has been essential to my success,” he says.

Not Just a Gym—A Family
One of the things that makes JFit stand out is its team-oriented environment. Under the leadership of Fitness Director Jessica Kichura, the fitness team is all about collaboration. “We don’t compete with each other—we help each other grow,” Wagner shares. “Jessica’s vision has been instrumental in making JFit such a dynamic place, and it’s my goal to support that vision by offering high-quality, personalized training to every member.”

It’s this supportive, family-like atmosphere that truly sets JFit apart. “We’re all in this together,” Wagner says. “It’s not just about the workout; it’s about the connections we make, the goals we achieve, and the way we support one another along the way.”

A Community of Success Stories
Wagner’s dedication to his clients has resulted in some incredible success stories. One that stands out is Perry, a long-time client who’s been training with Wagner for over a decade. “Perry is a true inspiration,” Wagner notes. “He’s been consistent with his workouts, and watching his transformation has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.” Perry’s success is a testament to Wagner’s commitment to helping people achieve lasting results, one rep at a time.

The JFit Triathlon
Looking to the future, JFit is gearing up for one of its most exciting events of the year: the annual JFit Triathlon. Scheduled for Sunday, April 27, the triathlon is a collaboration between JFit and the JCC Aquatics Department. It’s a day of friendly competition and community spirit, with participants of all fitness levels coming together to challenge themselves. “It’s a great way to get everyone involved,” Wagner shares. “Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or a beginner, this event is about having fun and supporting one another.”

The triathlon is just one example of how JFit is constantly evolving to offer more opportunities for people to get active, get involved, and most importantly—have fun.

The JFit Difference: Fitness with Heart
JFit’s recent win as Best Gym in Bridgewater is proof that this team is doing something right. But for Wagner and his colleagues, the true reward is seeing their members succeed, both in and out of the gym. “Fitness is about building relationships, supporting each other, and celebrating progress,” Wagner says. “And that’s what we do every day here at JFit.”
