When we think of style, our minds often go to fashion, décor trends, or the latest colors making headlines. But according to Shereen Farahani, owner and lead designer of Premier Home Center, true style begins much closer to home.

"It's about creating a space that reflects who you are and supports the way you live," she says. "When a home is both beautiful and functional, that's timeless."

For homeowners throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Shereen has earned a reputation for creating homes that are as beautiful as they are functional—spaces thoughtfully designed around the people who live in them. Yet what makes her perspective especially unique isn't just her experience; it's that she grew up right here in Great Falls, giving her a deep understanding of the homes, lifestyles, and values that define this community.

A Hometown Story

Long before she was helping families transform luxury homes, Shereen was exploring the woods and ponds behind her family's home in Great Falls. Although Washington, D.C. was only minutes away, she remembers growing up in a community that felt remarkably small-town.

"It was a special place," she recalls. "We were surrounded by nature, but also by incredibly driven and accomplished people. It taught me to dream big while appreciating the community around me."

While many professionals eventually leave Northern Virginia, Shereen chose to build both her family and her business here.

"My family and lifelong friendships are here," she says. "I also wanted my own child to grow up in the same kind of diverse, education-focused community that shaped me."

"There is so much pride in homeownership here," she explains. "Every family is different, and every project deserves a thoughtful, personalized approach."

Timeless Never Goes Out of Style

In an age of Pinterest boards and social media inspiration, it's easy to mistake trends for good design.

Shereen sees it differently.

"Timeless style is personal," she says. "It isn't about copying someone else's home. It's about creating a space that's authentic to you."

Rather than chasing what's popular this season, she focuses on balance—layering natural materials, texture, lighting, artwork, and carefully selected finishes that create warmth and depth.

Neutral colors such as creams, whites, and blacks remain classics because they allow homeowners to personalize their spaces without becoming dated.

The goal isn't for someone to walk in and recognize the latest trend.

The goal is for them to recognize the family who lives there.

Five Designer Secrets You Can Use Today

Not every home improvement requires a major renovation. According to Shereen, a few thoughtful updates can dramatically improve both the beauty and functionality of almost any home.

Layer Your Lighting

Lighting is often called the jewelry of a home—and for good reason. Instead of relying on a single overhead fixture, combine ambient, task, and accent lighting with table lamps, sconces, pendants, or under-cabinet lighting to create warmth, depth, and character.

Bring in Texture

Luxury isn't about adding more furniture—it's about creating visual interest. Natural fibers, textured fabrics, statement rugs, wallpaper, and meaningful artwork can instantly make a room feel richer, more inviting, and professionally designed.

Design Around Your Lifestyle

Before buying anything new, take a step back and ask, Does this room work for the way we actually live? Sometimes improving storage, traffic flow, or organization has a greater impact than replacing finishes.

Invest in a Vision

One of the smartest investments isn't a new countertop or appliance—it's taking time to create a thoughtful plan. Whether you're working with a designer or planning yourself, knowing where you're headed before making purchases saves time, money, and frustration.

Choose Timeless Foundations

If you're unsure whether something is a passing trend, keep your larger investments classic. Neutral palettes, natural materials, quality craftsmanship, and pieces you genuinely love will remain beautiful long after trends have changed.

Designing for Today's Families

Homes have changed dramatically over the past decade.

Families are busier than ever. Kitchens have become gathering spaces, homework stations, and home offices all at once. Formal dining rooms are giving way to more flexible living areas. Homeowners are requesting larger showers instead of oversized tubs, more built-in storage, and mudrooms that keep busy households organized.

For Shereen, every design decision begins with one question:

How will this family actually live here?

That often leads to thoughtful spatial planning, smarter storage solutions, and rooms that feel both luxurious and effortlessly livable.

Looking Ahead

As she looks toward the future of luxury home design, Shereen believes homes will become even more personalized.

Designing for aging in place, multigenerational living, wellness, and long-term functionality will become increasingly important. At the same time, she loves seeing homeowners blend treasured family heirlooms with clean contemporary design—creating spaces that feel collected, meaningful, and uniquely their own.

In the end, the most beautiful homes aren't the ones that simply impress visitors.

They're the ones that make the people living there feel completely at home.

Not every home improvement requires a renovation. A few thoughtful updates can dramatically improve the beauty and functionality of a home.

"Design has no boundaries and shouldn't be confined by trends. Every home should be as individual and personal as the people who live there. My style is understated glam—with just the right touch of color."
