Perfect Summer Patios

Tips to Amp Up the Summer Fun

Summer pool days demand a great patio, but creating an inviting outdoor space can sometimes be challenging here in the Valley of the Sun. How do you take your backyard from frumpy to fabulous? Homeowners don’t have to overthink it too much, thanks to creative folks like those at Downeast Home (DowneastHome.com) who can help you incorporate some of the latest ideas and aesthetics to create a fab summer patio.

Director of Visual Merchandising Jen Hritzak says there are specific designs popular this summer to upgrade backyards.

“We’re seeing a lot of elevated designs and textures used in woven rattans, rope weaves and mesh accents. People want to enhance their space to achieve a cozy, peaceful vibe, so we are seeing an increase in the use of accessories such as rugs, throw pillows, lanterns, fun accent tables and more.”

While people are often looking for new and modern ways to upgrade their backyard decor, there are some looks that never go out of style. Hritzak encourages homeowners to begin with neutral tones, adding color to transition between seasons or to reflect a change in trends.

For Hritzak, there are some amazing styles and looks that are really working well right now. Most people are looking for spaces outdoors that are warm and inviting, adding earth elements and lots of texture. This is a good way to mix and match different styles such as rope weaves mixed with a beautifully designed chaise lounge. Then, you can add in some cement tables poolside—ideal because of their water and weather resistance—giving you a solid look as well as practical furniture that will last for years. Bonus, it can be used year-round in a variety of settings.

Budget is always something people are concerned with when it comes to decorating and updating your home. While outdoor furniture doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, Hritzak offers solid advice.

“You don’t have to have a big budget, but make sure you look for high-quality, durable features. Aluminum frames, sun-resistant cushions, water-resistant materials etc., will help you keep items year after year. While things may be less expensive in the beginning, it isn’t useful if you must replace them every season.”
