Sneha and Sid moved from India in the early 2000’s, and they are currently raising their three children in Bellevue. One of their most beloved traditions is visiting India in the summer as a family. Here they share with Bellevue Lifestyle what they enjoy most during their visits.
With most of our family and many close friends in India, a visit there is always exciting and something we look forward to. This go around, we will be traveling with over 40 family members (spanning four generations!) for six days on a tour visiting various historical temples across mostly rural parts in the state of Gujarat. We had gone on a trip with the same people two years ago, and while anxious and not knowing what to expect, it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable and memorable trips for us as a family. Most importantly, the kids got to know our family better and experienced travel like locals. We hope to keep this tradition of visiting India going for as long as possible!

We always look forward to going back to some of our favorite food joints, cruising on scooters, visiting places we haven’t seen in years, and recalling memories to our kids as we visit places we spent time at as teenagers. There is always a lot to catch up on with friends and family. We also love showing kids photos of us growing up – a time with no phones or gadgets!

Visiting India is a tradition I cherish. What strikes me the most is the difference in culture, especially how multiple generations of a family live together, including some of my family! A memory I enjoy most is leaving the house with my cousins in the dead of night to go grab street food, which is something that I never get to experience here in the US.

My favorite part about visiting India is meeting my cousins and relatives. Experiencing new things with my extended family helps me build memories and strengthen the bonds I have with them. We do fun things together such as explore different places and try out different foods. The local markets are something I love exploring and seeing local artists.

There are many things I enjoy while visiting India – traveling in the train, catching up with my cousins, art with my grandma, feeding cows, playing ding-dong ditch in my family’s condo building, and going for horse rides.
