As the clothing, swimwear and accessory buyer for my stores Sunbug and Twist Boutique, I’m frequently asked how I know what to buy and what fashion trends are worth following. Some choices are based on my personal style, but many are guided by what I see popping up in design and what I think will resonate with our customers.
This year, wide leg pants are making a comeback – both full and mid-lengths. How you wear them depends on your body type. Some ladies can rock a cropped top with a mid-length gaucho, while others will feel more comfortable in an a-line blouse with their full-length option. I’m also noticing the return of polka dots, a timeless classic worn by style icons like Jacqueline Kennedy and Zoe Kravitz. Following the yellow polka dot bikini trend last year, polka dots are now appearing in knit dresses, sweaters and pants. Choose where to add them into your wardrobe based on your style.
Also trending is clothing with built-in sun-protection. UPF fabric is becoming more popular in swimwear, athleisure and even party dresses as we learn how vulnerable we are to the sun’s rays. It is an especially smart investment here in our sun-kissed Venice!
