Sunshine at The Drake House

Two Roswell area nonprofits partner to make life better for moms and kids experiencing homelessness

Sunshine on a Ranney Day (SOARD), a Roswell-based nonprofit that renovates homes for kids with special needs, has partnered with The Drake House, another Roswell-based nonprofit whose mission is to empower women and their children experiencing homelessness to thrive through economic independence, well-being and long-term stability.

SOARD unveiled newly renovated youth and moms’ activity spaces. The makeover includes redesigning and renovating multiple rooms that serve as classrooms for kids to study, learn life skills, participate in arts and crafts and serve as safe spaces for them to lounge. The rooms also serve to help moms with relationship building, parenting, health and wellness and money management.

The Drake House project is part of “10 Years of Sunshine”, as the charity celebrates 10 years of makeovers for kids and families in the Atlanta metro area. Each year SOARD completes a special community project that helps a large number of children and families.

Over half of the makeover was covered by in-kind donations thanks to the following sponsors:  Jackson Healthcare, Randall Paulson Architects, Real Floors Commercial, Randall Brothers, Sugar Hill Outdoors, Mohawk, Envision Office Solutions, Builders Cabinet Company, Rexel, Cambria, Construction Resources, Echols Glass and Mirror, TLC Engineering Solutions, 3LP Engineering, Emser Tile, The Wall Nut, Comfort Research, Atlas Disposal, Cosentino, MRI Real Estate Software, Roswell Women’s Club, Rotary Club of Alpharetta, IDS Construction Services, J&K Electrical Contractors, TKO Plumbing Services, Baker Paint, Seabrook Design Co., and Swinteron.
