Support Local!

Let's take care of each other. Our local small businesses need us more than ever.

Are you looking for ways to support local businesses during this unprecedented time? There are so many various industries affected by Covid19, and we are looking for ways to support the businesses that often support us. Our local businesses do so many things for our community and now is the time for us to give back to them. Countless times our businesses  step up to sponsor our school events, area fundraisers and give to important area outreaches. Let's find ways to show love to the businesses in our community. Here are some ways that some of our area businesses are finding ways to still offer services.

The Kansas City Zoo

Bringing the Zoo to You

You can still visit the Zoo while we're closed because we are bringing it right to your home with fun and educational online content. Please follow us on social media (the links can be found at the bottom of this email) as we will be posting even while you are unable to visit. Catch our Facebook Lives daily and see what the animals and our amazing staff are up to.

You can also watch our penguins and giraffes 24/7 with our animal cams! https://www.youtube.com/user/kansascityzoo

Karin Ross Designs

Due to COVID-19 we now offer video conferences and curbside drop-off for samples selected during our video conference, as part of our design process and planning.

Let's work together and prepare for an early August-September installation on full kitchen remodels. We can do all the designs, cabinetry selection and drawings approval, tile, countertop, etc. selection through video "meetings," so we can all be safe. Once done, you can still sign off and approve all design and selections. Let's use the technology we have to help us work together in creating beautiful and functional spaces in your home that will help you adjust for the new normal.

Using this "extra" time we have to be more artistic and creative will help all of us feel hopeful as we all agree this will pass. Art, design and our sessions could be beneficial for the future project but also can get our minds off the seriousness of the moment. Staying safe while thinking of your new kitchen or bathroom (and all you want to have in it) gives you something to look forward to as you prepare for getting back to "normal."

Let's begin the design process for your new kitchen or bathroom remodel together.

Beyond Wealth Advisors

The coronavirus pandemic has resulted in understandably higher anxiety levels for our clients. However, early in our financial planning process we work alongside them to prepare for these types of storms. Over the past weeks, we have been in constant communication with clients, reviewing their plans and urging them to maintain perspective and stay the course. Our implementation of advanced communication technology two years ago has greatly enhanced our ability to serve our clients while allowing our staff to work from the safety of their own homes. True to our name, we focus on preparing our clients for whatever life presents them today, tomorrow and beyond.  -  Beyond Wealth Advisors

Cornerstone Dermatology Now Offering Online Consultations

We want our patients to stay safe and healthy in light of COVID-19. Cornerstone Dermatology is now offering online dermatology visits through our secure telemedicine portal for both new and established patients.

Call us at 816-287-1528 to schedule an online telemedicine visit or visit here to learn more.

You must have a device with a functioning camera or webcam, so we’re able to consult with you and make a diagnosis. Medicare and many commercial insurance companies cover a telehealth visit the same as they would an in-person office visit.

In the office, we are taking every precaution to prevent the spread of disease. We continue to accept referrals and prioritize essential medical care to prevent overcrowding and further spread of disease in the urgent care setting.

Denker Law Firm

We are working diligently to make legal services more accessible to our clients, from initial meetings by phone or through a video conference (like Zoom), to reduce the number of in-person visits. Estate Planning is an essential service that we provide, but lately we're getting a lot more questions about how COVID-19 is affecting our small business clients. Questions were initially on whether they qualify as an essential business and how to operate if they do, but questions are now transitioning to how new legislation must/can be used. The CARES Act has created a lot of great methods of support for businesses of all types. One of the most frequent questions I am seeing and hearing is, are the SBA loans via the CARES Act really forgivable? We are honored to help clients navigate through these concerns and more.

Colonial Gardens

We are SUPER excited to announce the Colonial Kids Club.

At Colonial gardens we believe in education around gardens and nature, and we are passionate about supporting parents and teachers in their efforts to educate the children in our community. Our club will include many projects and activities to support parents and teachers by engaging children in fun activities.

Our first project that we are sharing with the club is our Learning Garden. The Learning garden is intended to introduce kids (of all ages) to growing two gardens, during different seasons, in one container. We think it will be a fun and interactive project for kids to learn about growing both food and a pollinator garden. The Learning Garden comes as a kit which can be ordered through our store for curbside pickup. Call us at 816-229-1277.

Each week Colonial Gardens experts will post a video showing our gardens and demonstrating the appropriate maintenance activities for that particular week. We will also take time to share some science related to plants and planting, benefits of growing this garden and might even video tour through some of our larger gardens to show how the Learning Garden skills can be taken to the next level.

We are really excited about this project as it gives you time to work with your kids at home to develop skills while growing food and providing food and habitat for our pollinators. Join our group, Colonial Kids Club and order your kit to get started.

Home Instead Senior Care

During these unprecedented times, Home Instead Senior Care knows the safest place for seniors is at home. We are taking necessary steps to help keep our CAREGivers and seniors safe by following recommendations from the CDC through our Home Instead Senior Care global network. We are closely managing the CAREGiver-to-client ratio to minimize potential exposure. Our CAREGivers bring a sense of normalcy and calm by continuing to provide seniors with the help needed to remain healthy and secure. Home Instead Senior Care has been serving our community since 2004, and we will continue to be here for you and your family.

Developing Potential

Developing Potential continues to serve individuals having developmental disabilities, albeit in new and unique ways. During this time of uncertainty and confusion for those we serve, we are reaching out to individuals through Zoom conference calls and telehealth meetings on a regular basis and providing in home services, where requested, while our day program is temporarily closed. Our DPI Employment Connections team continues to work to build skills with individuals who are working toward employment by using technology and supports. We continue to network with employers and have even received one job offer during this time. To make an impactful donation to Developing Potential, visit DevelopingPotential.org

All A Bloom

All A Bloom has recieved such a tremendous show of support during these challenging times. When our retail location was forced to closed to the public, we started gaining requests to provide more deliveries to teachers, councelors, medical personel, as well as an increased demand for birthdays, and special occassions due to the inability to interact with our loved ones. We restructured our buying process that now includes working soley with local flower farms. The advantages include more colorful and longer lasting flowers, they are fresher, and it allows us to support other small businesses. Additionally we have a better understanding of the precautions they are taking. Currently we are only taking non-contact orders (website or phones) and providing non-contact delivery. We have a curbside pick up OR a delivery process (Lee’s Summit only) to maintain social distancing. We are grateful to the Lee's Summit community for helping us to sustain our small business! For inquiries regarding tulip bundles or assorted arrangements please call 816-554-0069 or visit our website: https://allabloomflorist.com/tulips/tulip-bundles.html

Simply Home Companion & Personal Care

As a family owned senior home care business, we are used to operating from home to provide essential services to seniors in their homes. But now more than ever we are adopting a home-based practice with online video conferences for caregiver interviews and orientations. We have also asked caregivers to complete an e-learning course “Understanding Coronavirus,” to carefully maintain social distancing, and to follow infection control procedures relentlessly at home and with clients. We are acutely aware of the vital role and great responsibility we have to enable seniors to remain safely in their homes.

How Can You Help Our Local Businesses?

  • Purchase a gift card from a local store to use at a later date. This gives the local business revenue to utilize now, and gives the customer something to look forward to spending at a later date.
  • Write a positive review for your favorite local spots. So often we visit locations and don't think of writing a positive review for that company. A positive review can boost the company's ratings and may encourage someone to be a future client or customer by reading what you have to say.
  • Do you love a local small business? Well shout it from the rooftops! Personal referrals are one of the best ways to obtain new clients or customers. Share on your social media pages about why you love a favorite local business, and make a conscious effort to refer your friends and neighbors to your favorite businesses.
  • Visit the Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce website to discover ways to support local businesses. Think beyond just curbside pickup.
  • Sign-up for local online instructional classes from local musicians, artists and more. Now is your opportunity to learn from incredibly talented people and support them financially at the same time.
