O-Ma-Kase, Sushi|Bar ATX is So Good

What started as a pop up omakase spot in what we’re told was once a broom closet in Bento Picnic, has become one of the hottest reservations in town. The original founders, Chefs Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee, left to open Sushi by Scratch, but Sushi Bar is in good hands with Executive Chef Ambrely Ouimette. Ambrely and her team serve up 17 courses of inventively dressed nigiri to three seatings of 10 people each night. If you don’t mind eating late, we suggest the 9:30pm reservation to give yourself the extra time and opportunity to indulge in ‘extra courses’ offered if there’s time. These can be chef’s choice or doubling down on one of the evening’s previous courses, which may have been Tasmanian trout, a Tex-Mex-inspired piece of salmon or Texas Wagyu.  Whatever it is, they perfect each bite, and leave you craving more.

Reservations for Sushi Bar ATX are available on Tock at noon on the first of each month. The dinner is $145/person. It’s located at 2600 E Cesar Chavez St, East Austin, exploretock.com/sushibaraustin
