Taylor Cusack’s journey into the world of golf began at a young age, thanks to her dad’s influence. Starting at Southmoore High School, Taylor’s golfing prowess took her to Oklahoma City University, where she majored in kinesiology and exercise science on a scholarship, where she contributed to a two-time National Championship team.
Post-college, her passion for golf evolved into a career, including stints as a golf coach and instructor, blending her love for the game with a commitment to fitness.
Today, a typical week for Taylor involves a mix of workouts at Orangetheory Fitness Moore, which she discovered was a great fit for her lifestyle back in 2017. The combination of cardiovascular training and strength-focused “lift” classes not only enhances her physical condition but also improves her driving distance on the golf course.
“Balance is a huge part of golf, so I bring that to the weight room,” she says. “If it takes me a few extra minutes to complete an exercise, and that’s OK. I’m not trying to rush through it—there’s a reason I’m taking my time and focusing on my correct form; I take it right back to the course and apply it.”
Recognizing golf’s mental challenges, Taylor embraces a holistic approach. Beyond physical workouts, early-morning sessions at Orangetheory contribute to her mental resilience. It takes discipline to wake up at 4:15 a.m.—discipline that is core to achieving success on the golf course.
“Not many people want to wake up at 4:15 a.m. to make it to the 5 a.m. class, but being grounded enough to do it …. says a lot about how much that person wants to better themselves,” she says.
Having played on numerous courses, Taylor appreciates those that offer a balance of fitness and experience. While she doesn’t compete professionally, she is involved in various celebrity, charity and pro-am tournaments, where there’s a unique blend of competition and camaraderie that creates memorable experiences on and off the course.
Taylor’s impressive social media presence (she has over 150,000 Instagram, 80,000 TikTok and 40,000 Twitter followers), and her hope is to inspire many to adopt a healthier lifestyle and take up golf. Her advice for newcomers emphasizes the importance of balance and finding enjoyment in the journey, echoing her own experiences of turning a passion into a fulfilling career.
Taylor aims to continue her active role in the golf scene, hosting events, playing in tournaments and expanding her podcast, “The Tee with Taylor.” While her current focus is on being present in the golf world, the former co-host of Fox Sports’ Swing Clinic says a return to television remains a potential goal.
“There isn’t an easy way to start; you just have to get your mind right and tell yourself it’s going to be hard, but if you would’ve started last week, today wouldn’t have been that hard. So, if you go today, then next week will be a little easier on you.”
