Have you ever wanted to know what your partner experiences in a day? Can you really put yourself in their shoes? That’s the premise of the body-swap romantic comedy “Switches” that screened at the 2026 BronzeLens Film Festival in Atlanta. I was blessed to chat with Brandon Broussard, the writer and director of the film. He was sure to point out that most films that switch the characters use magic.  But he wanted them to have agency and actually choose the switch, to take a chance to save their marriage. The film is on its way to several other screening series and festivals, including the Urban World Film Festival and three screenings in London.

Nefetari Spencer, acclaimed actress from my favorite show “Reasonable Doubt” on Hulu said that filming “Switches” was a whirlwind. She was able to complete her part of the filming as the main character's boss in just one day. “It's all about relationships,” she says. As soon as she found out Brandon was involved along with so many other favorites, she was all in.

I asked Brandon how we here in SoFu can support the film and he said that he would be happy to take an $8 million donation to complete the feature, but other than that, please just share the trailer! He said that Rod Wave, Lizzo, and SZA reposted it and gained a lot of momentum. This helps him to get it in front of studios and producers. You can do your part to get the word out about this amazing short film!

The body-swap rom-com, “Switches,” premiered at BronzeLens Film Festival in Atlanta, Georgia in August 2026.

“Switches” is set in present-day Los Angeles and follows Dawn and Jake Butler, once the “it” couple of the DTLA creative scene, whose marriage is crumbling under rent, ambition, and growing distance. When eviction and divorce creep in, the couple turns to Happy Couples, a hush-hush start-up promising an “empathy revolution” through its trial drug Switch—a pill that lets couples trade consciousness for 24 hours. The pill works! Dawn wakes in Jake’s 6‐foot‐4-inch frame; Jake jolts into Dawn’s tattoo‐free body. They must walk, work, and love in each other’s lives for a single day—until an accident, a forbidden drink, and an even more forbidden night trap them in the swap for an entire trimester. Part body-swap comedy, part love-story reset, the film is a sharp, R-rated romantic comedy in miniature that asks whether empathy can be engineered, and what it really takes to walk a mile (or just one impossible day) in your partner's shoes.

“Switches” stars Chanté Adams as Dawn and Sinqua Walls as Jake. The film is produced by Mel Jones and Stephen Love, and was written and directed by Brandon Broussard, a Howard University alum and USC Writing Fellow with more than 15 years of writing and producing for Lionsgate, Netflix, Universal, Warner Bros., and Amazon/MGM.

The film was produced and financed by Samansa, under their production label SSTRUCK, a Japan-based streaming platform dedicated to championing bold and distinctive short-form storytelling from emerging filmmakers around the world.
