Switchin' Kitchens began shortly after Rachel Basile, founder, and her husband relocated to Charlotte from New York in 1997. Rachel spent two decades working in the textile industry, but following the birth of her children and the passing of her parents found herself at a crossroads and no longer fulfilled in her career.
She pursued a spiritual path to find professional purpose, returning to church after having abandoned regular attendance for years as she worked to find a balance between the demands of career and family. Shortly after Rachel and her family joined Threshold Church in Matthews, church members recommended Rachel read Rick Warren’s, "The Purpose Driven Life," and she credits the book with helping her find her purpose.
Rachel came from a foodie family that planned and pre-prepared weekly family meals each weekend – a practice that she and her husband adopted when they married. When she attended a child’s birthday party with her son, Rachel learned of a business that offered meal planning and pre-prepared foods for purchase. Rachel observed the positive response that the concept received and realized she had found her purpose. Thus, Switchin’ Kitchens was born and Rachel opened for business on September 14, 2006.
