To get a jump on celebrating Valentine's Day, why not join Chef Alexander Shimpeno for a hands-on class titled "Cook like Cupid" on Feb. 9?

Whether with a galentine, spouse, relative or someone special, Chef Alex vows to shows attendees how to make a beautiful meal for two. "I'll teach the techniques necessary to make a French-inspired menu, from the techniques necessary to make a perfect buerre blanc to how to keep your salmon moist," he says. "We'll make sure you leave with the skills to recreate this in the comfort of your own home, complete with a decadent chocolate confection to swoon over."

The class will be conducted from 6-8 p.m. in a working kitchen. Cost is $85 per person. Recipe packets are available for each person. Those will cover:

  • Lobster biqsue with chive oil and creme craiche.
  • Seared Atlantic salmon with roasted fingerling potatoes, roasted carrots, rosemary pistou and lemon buerre blanc.
  • Flourless chocolate cake with cracked caramel and macerated berries.

For anyone wishing to request a private class, email Alexs@alexandercateringco.com.

Additionally, the chef's team offers a "Table For Two" package regarding a four-course meal prepared to be picked up on Feb. 14 to enjoy at home. Orders must be placed ahead of Valentine's Day evening.

A different cooking class, Get That Dough, also is offered by the chef on Feb. 16. "With four ingredients you, too, can make pasta at home and with our demonstration of sauce-making, you can turn your pantry into the Old World of wonders. We'll teach you the ways to make both filled and strand pastas. A complimentary glass of red wine will served with your meal," he adds.

This class is $75 per person from 6-9 p.m. It will feature linguini with shrimp and clams, plus four cheese ravioli with butternut squash and brown butter sage.

Chef Alex is a hands-on culinarian. In 2019, he opened Alexander Catering Company and Shimpy's BBQ to serve Chester County and beyond. He says he wanted to focus on creating amazing food, served by great people to provide an outstanding experience to clients.

As a graduate of Philadelphia's Restaurant School at Walnut College, Chef Alex's career started early in catering before entering the restaurant world. His 12 years of work as an executive chef in Chester County allowed him to put his classical training to the test. His culinary works ranged from brewpubs and cooking with local brews, Italian, locally sourced farm-to-table dishes and Texas-style barbecue. He even enjoyed two years working as a culinary instructor, teaching the basics from knife skills to creating multi-course meals.

This team caters weddings, cocktail parties, showers, corporate events, galas, fundraisers and other social gatherings.

As a full-service caterer, they can coordinate all aspects of events including facilitating rentals for tables, chairs, linens, plates, flatware, glasses, service equipment, displays, chaffers and dance floors. They also have a tasting room. "Large or small, we do it all," quips Chef Alex.
