Long before department stores and national brands, haberdasheries—offering fine men's clothing and accessories—were a cornerstone of downtown shopping. Boley's Haberdashery at 42 Macomb Street became one of Mount Clemens' best-known men's furnishing stores after Eugene Boley assumed ownership in 1911. Originally established by A. Wayne Brown and Henry W. Wagner in 1904, the shop specialized in hats, shirts, ties, bathrobes and other wardrobe essentials. The photograph captures Guy Brown standing proudly in the doorway, representing an era when local merchants knew their customers by name and quality mattered above all. As we celebrate style this month, it's fitting to remember one of the businesses that helped dress Mount Clemens more than a century ago.
