Have mosquitoes invaded your once peaceful backyard? Orkin can help take care of those pesky blood-suckers for you! Our targeted mosquito reduction service combines the most advanced technology and methods available to help take back your yard. Mosquitoes breed in standing water, so properties near ponds, marshes, depressions, and containers that collect rainwater are a risk. Gainesville has a heavy mosquito population due to the swampy environment that is found here.
The In2Care® Mosquito Station is made of durable plastic and uses water with an odor lure to attract egg-laying Aedes and Culex mosquitoes. Once inside, mosquitoes contact the specially treated gauze near the water surface and get infected with larvicide and a slow acting, insect – specific fungus. We exploit the fact that Aedes and Culex like to divide their eggs over multiple sites; by letting them fly out of the Station whilst carrying larvicide on their legs. They transport the larvicide and distribute it to several breeding sites around the Station. In this way, we can kill larvae in small and hard to find breeding sources before they have a chance to develop into adults. The adult mosquito also gets infected with an insect-specific fungus that kills her before she can spread disease. This specific, targeted treatment allows us to reduce the mosquito population in your yard while protecting our pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
