Taking Leaps of Faith

From Financial Services to Foster Care, a Journey of Gratitude

In 2007, I moved to Dripping Springs with my high school sweetheart and our two sons. It was a leap of faith, as we had never even been to Texas before putting the deposit down to build our house. We knew there was something special about this town, and we had dreams of raising our family in the beautiful Hill Country. As a second-generation financial advisor, I commuted to various parts of Austin, with hopes of someday having my own practice right in this community.

As our family and community continued to grow, Dripping Springs went from a great place to live to Home. In 2013, after a mission trip to Reynosa, Mexico, we took another leap of faith when God called us into the world of foster care. It was through that journey that our minds and hearts were opened to the immense needs right around us.

In 2015, we took another huge leap of faith. After 14 years of working for others, I decided to start my own financial services firm, Smith Wealth Management Group TX, through LPL Financial. My passion for serving my clients, my love of numbers and my belief in the numerous benefits of financial planning have enabled my business to continue to grow and serve more clients each year. I love having conversations with clients about their short- and long-term goals. I want to spend time listening so I can create custom plans to help my clients create the financial legacy they want for their families.

The next leap of faith came in 2016 after our experience with the foster care system. We decided to start Foster Village in order to serve others who were caring for children in the foster care system. Foster Village is a community project, and it would not be possible without the amazing support of Dripping Springs. Foster Village bridges the gap between an amazing community that wants to help and the children and caregivers who need that help and support.

As I reflect on the growth of our family, our community, Foster Village, and Smith Wealth Management Group TX over the years, I can’t help but become overcome with gratitude. “Gratitude,” by Brandon Lake is my favorite song. I write down three things I am grateful for in my journal every day. I’ve learned that gratitude doesn’t come naturally; it is something that we need to practice daily. There are so many things that we can find to be grateful for. What are your three things you are grateful for today?

Thank you, Drip. Thank you for coming alongside us. Thank you for your support. Thank you for your friendship. Thank you for your business. Thank you for loving well. Thank you for being a light for other communities to look to. You, the people of Dripping Springs, are what make it special.

I’m looking forward to growing old in this community, with an open heart filled with gratitude.

Gratefully,

Nick Smith
