In addition to its usual buzz of clinics, social gatherings, and play, June 2026 will bring another level of excitement to the turf when, for the second time in its history, Hazeltine National Golf Club will host the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Participating in this prestigious event is an honor for all involved: players, fans, sponsors, organizers, and many more.
Sharing in this honor is Greta Siedow, General Chair of the 2026 KPMG Women's PGA Championship. "The mission of Hazeltine is to be a golf club rich in tradition, dedicated to hosting championship golf and delivering exceptional experiences." Well, get ready, because this elite tournament — one of five majors in women's professional golf — showcases some of the most impressive golf on a course that will test even the greatest golfers in the world. And it's coming soon to a golf course near you.
"This championship is the second oldest women's major since 1955," Greta shares. She explains that it was historically known as the LPGA Championship, but in 2015, the PGA of America and KPMG partnered to offer women wider-ranging television coverage and an increased purse size (nearing $11 million — making the title highly coveted by the 156 competitors). But it's not all about golf. "KPMG, the title sponsor, has enthusiastically invested in the tournament and ensuring it’s a highly elevated experience for all involved.”
Hazeltine isn't new to major championships, having hosted the 2019 KPMG Women's PGA Championship and two other women's championships, the 1966 and 1977 U.S. Women's Opens, among many other men's professional and amateur championships. They're also the only club in the United States selected to host the Ryder Cup for a second time in 2029 after an exciting competition in 2016.
Greta shares that 2026 will bring spectators all of the fun and excitement that come with other major championships. There will be grandstands, fan zones, distinguished hospitality and corporate offerings, complimentary admission for juniors, merchandise, and, of course, some of the most awe-inspiring golf. "We want the community to bring record crowds to support these incredibly talented women and have them experience the cheers and roars they all deserve. Women's sports are on the rise, and I hope this event continues to prove that our community always shows up strong."
Greta emphasizes that opportunities to host major championships are becoming very competitive, and given Hazeltine's position and ability to host these championships, they feel a strong sense of responsibility to the city of Chaska, the surrounding counties, and the state of Minnesota to continue to bring these coveted events to the community. To celebrate these amazing events and the game of golf, they continue to look for ways to give back to the community through the Hazeltine Golf Foundation and other charitable initiatives to make golf more accessible and equitable to all.
"We're looking at ways to introduce more women and girls to golf through ancillary events and hope this will help grow their confidence to pick up a golf club no matter their skill level. These endeavors are an integral part of Hazeltine's and the PGA of America's mission."
Greta believes golf is an incredible opportunity to be challenged, demonstrate etiquette, learn unique rules, exercise, conduct business, and spend uninterrupted time with friends and family. "The list of benefits is infinite!" As a young girl, Greta was fortunate to be introduced to golf by her dad, and she hopes this event will be a catalyst for what is already a growing sport in our state and community. "I know that after I get a chance to witness the best in the world play what I believe is the most difficult sport, I'm motivated and even more excited to get back out on the course! It's inspiring."
Interested in getting involved? Local businesses can support this event by purchasing hospitality, tickets, or sponsoring or donating goods and services.
The team will also be launching volunteer opportunities — they'll need about 1,100 pairs of hands — and public ticket sales in late summer or early fall. Keep your eyes open for these launches in the next 15 months on the PGA and Hazeltine websites, as well as on different media outlets and social channels.
