The Anthem Mobility Closet

When Life Happens, ACTS Is Ready to Help

Life can change in an instant. A surgery, an injury, or a sudden illness can make everyday tasks difficult—or even impossible—without the right support. That’s why ACTS (Anthem Cares Through Service), created the Anthem Mobility Loan Closet, offering free short-term loans of medical and mobility equipment to Anthem residents in need.

From wheelchairs and walkers to shower chairs, canes, crutches, and knee scooters, the Mobility Closet ensures residents have what they need to recover safely and maintain independence at home. “Buying or renting equipment can be costly and time-consuming,” says Linda Pizzo, ACTS Executive Chair. “We wanted to make it simple and accessible—helping neighbors when they need it most.”

Housed locally and maintained entirely by volunteers, the closet is stocked, cleaned, and organized so that items are always ready for immediate use. Volunteers also deliver equipment when needed, ensuring residents can get the help they require without leaving home. The program is designed for short-term needs, whether someone is recovering from surgery, caring for an injured family member, or temporarily regaining mobility after an accident.

The Mobility Closet is part of ACTS’ broader mission. Founded over a decade ago, ACTS began when a small group of neighbors came together to help a family in crisis. Today, the organization provides practical and financial support through programs like Anthem Gives, which has distributed over $700,000 in assistance, and Anthem Cares, offering rides, errands, friendly visits, minor home repairs, and technical help to seniors and homebound neighbors.

For residents like J.C., who relies on ACTS volunteers for dialysis transportation, the impact is deeply personal: “They’ve never missed a ride—always kind and dependable. Their help gives my wife real peace of mind.”
