Nestled comfortably on Fourth Street NW in downtown Canton is a cozy, enticing little cheese house that radiates charm. Though the name and decor have a decidedly French flavor, Fromage du Monde features a full array of international cheeses to tempt any gourmand. In addition to deli service and dine-in cheese flights, proprietor Nicole Dietz-Hunt offers catering featuring artistically arranged Grazing Trays and Tables.
You may have seen one of these visually striking displays of finger foods turn up at a party or event. Dietz-Hunt calls Grazing Trays “gifts from heaven”; their booming popularity in recent years proves that there are many who feel the same way. “Typically a balanced Grazing Tray is made up of sweets and savories, nuts, pickles, fresh and dried fruit,” she says. “Anything goes as long as it’s both delicious and aesthetically pleasing.” The tray shown here is an example that certainly ticks both of those boxes.
Dietz-Hunt has always been a food enthusiast and loves to “talk cheese” with her customers. Before opening the cheese house, she already had a decade of experience in the catering industry, and through it all she’s considered beautiful food to be a creative outlet for her.
Fromage du Monde celebrated its first anniversary on October 4th, 2020, and demand is still rising. The shop is located at 340 Fourth St NW and is open from 11:00am to 3:00pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Customers can contact Nicole Dietz-Hunt at 330.274.9901 or FromageCanton@gmail.com.
Whole Grain Mustard
This is a prepared condiment that is only partially blended to leave visible mustard seeds. With a coarse and slightly pasty texture, it’s a savory essential for any tray.
Fruit Compote
Prepared in-house, this is a thickened blend of fruits and berries with cordials like rum or brandy. The occasional ginger root or chipotle pepper keeps flavors interesting.
Artisan Cheese
Mixing milk types, textures, and hard & soft cheeses will create depth and variety on a tray. Cows’ milk, sheep/goat’s milk, and blue cheeses are included here.
Charcuterie Ribbon
This feature is made by folding round, thick, large-format charcuterie into quarters and skewering them in an alternating pattern. The delight pictured here is made from pepperoni.
Chocolate Bark
A Fromage du Monde exclusive from Wollenberg Chocolates, this blend of dark and milk chocolate, granola, and dried cherries adds a rich dessert element to the tray.
Mustard Pickles
Another Fromage du Monde specialty, these pickles are made from fresh cucumbers brined in-house in a tangy horseradish and mustard mixture to add a super savory touch.
