For Fayetteville native Kathryn Parker, a style content creator known for her eclectic fashion and secondhand finds, getting dressed has always been a process of discovery. Her aesthetic is often described as dopamine dressing, but Parker sees it as the natural result of learning what reflects her personality. After years of exploring different looks, she found what felt unmistakably like herself and now encourages other women to do the same.
Many women have trouble defining their personal style. How did you find yours?
After I had my second child, I looked in my closet and realized none of it reflected who I was anymore. I started trying different looks to see what felt right. I realized I kept reaching for colorful pieces, mixed patterns, vintage finds, and slightly outrageous statement earrings because they felt fun, joyful, and the most like me. I never set out to embrace dopamine dressing. I was trying to find my way back to myself, and that’s where I landed.
How can someone discover their personal style on a budget?
NWA has incredible secondhand stores, with some of my favorites right here in Fayetteville. About 80% of my closet is thrifted, and I’m usually quick to say, “Thanks, it’s thrifted!” when someone compliments my outfit. I started by recreating Pinterest outfits on a budget. I’ve had an artsy linen era. A vintage western era. A boho librarian era. Each phase taught me something, and shopping secondhand gave me the freedom to experiment without fear of getting it wrong.
What’s the difference between following trends and developing personal style?
I love a good trend, but I don’t feel the need to chase every one. If something fits my aesthetic, great. If not, I keep scrolling. Personal style is built one piece at a time by collecting things you genuinely love until your closet looks like you instead of your algorithm.
How can getting dressed change how someone feels throughout the day?
We underestimate how much the little things affect our day. Putting on an outfit you genuinely love can make an ordinary Tuesday more fun. We all get dressed every day, so why not make it one of the best parts of your morning? Wear the earrings, the colorful blouse, the thing that makes you smile. The right occasion isn’t someday. It’s today.
