Tara Quinn is on a quest to help people look and feel better about their skin. The physician assistant worked in the medical field for about nine years before opening T-Bella Med Spa in Readington in 2022. Here, Quinn discusses how a med spa treatment can improve your appearance.
What does the name mean?
“Tara-Bella” is my family nickname, which I shortened to “T-Bella.” It fits perfectly since “Bella” means beautiful and at T-Bella Med Spa, we strive for all of our patients to feel their absolute best and their most beautiful.
What misconceptions do people have about med spas?
Many people think a med spa is a spa, but they are actually medical practices employed with highly skilled, trained, licensed medical practitioners. They also think that dermal fillers make it look like you had a beauty enhancement. However, the majority of dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a compound that your body naturally produces. Fillers, when done correctly, rejuvenate the skin and make problem areas look younger. That is why it is important to go to highly skilled medical practitioners for these procedures. These products are used to create natural-looking results and help to replace the normal loss of soft tissue as we age.
Another misconception is that non-invasive treatments are not medical procedures. However, the use of any FDA-approved medical devices and/or medications make the treatment a medical procedure. This includes cool sculpting and SkinPen microneedling.
Finally, people think they should always shop around for the cheapest price on filler and Botox. What’s most important is the skill, talent, aesthetic sense and expertise of the medical practitioner performing the aesthetic treatments. The process is similar to commissioning a beautiful piece of art. The type of paint or clay being used is secondary. What’s paramount is the skin and vision of the artist.
What is Botox—and will it freeze my face?
People think that Botox includes a poisonous compound, but it is an FDA-approved product used for treating various medical conditions. The main ingredient of Botox is a neurotoxin—botulinum toxin type A—that influences brain signals to muscles. Reduced muscle contractions limit the movement of your muscles, which then results in less wrinkles and fine lines.
Research has shown that Botox helps prevent new wrinkles from forming and is being used more frequently as a preventative aesthetic treatment. Since our practitioners are highly skilled and knowledgeable of facial anatomy, the result is natural-looking; your face will not be frozen.
These injections also can be used to treat excessive sweating in areas like your hands and feet, armpits, forehead, and upper lip. Botox is also used in treating TMJ as well as migraine headaches.
In addition to Botox, we offer other neuromodulators—Dysport and Daxxify—and several lines of dermal fillers. As we get older, we lose bone and soft tissue in our face. Our fat pads and structural support beneath the skin shifts. Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body, which can replace volume in the face, give a fuller lip plump, enhance certain facial features, treat moderate to severe wrinkles or facial folds and help even out facial asymmetries. Dermal fillers also can be used in the hands, which can prematurely show your age, and in the earlobes, which can help your earrings sit correctly.
How can laser treatments improve appearance?
Lasers are minimally invasive cosmetic procedures that can remove unwanted hair, provide skin resurfacing, remove sun damage and improve active acne in adults and teens.
We are one of the few med spas in New Jersey to provide the world’s first Hybrid Fractional Laser, which combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to the same microscopic treatment zone, which maximizes results, reduces downtime and minimizes discomfort. This is excellent for reducing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, sun damage and enlarged pores.
Depending on the type of treatment you receive, you may need to come in every four weeks for about two to three treatments or two to three times a year. For laser hair removal, you will come in once every four to six weeks for about six to eight treatments. Then, it’s just maintenance whenever you see hair growth.
What are the benefits of B-12 injections?
B-12 shots are minimally invasive treatments that offer many important benefits, such as boosting your metabolism and energy levels, strengthening immune function, enhancing mood, improving sleep and concentration, and promoting healthy hair, skin and nails. The vitamin is injected directly into your muscle, which allows your tissues to absorb it quickly, allowing it to reach your bloodstream as soon as possible. B-12 is one of a handful of vitamins that your liver can store for long-term use. Injecting the vitamin directly into your muscle allows it to maintain its potency for maximum benefits. You may begin to feel the effects of a B-12 shot within just four to 72 hours after injection.
