Do you ‘remember when’ we printed our treasured pictures and collected them in photo albums? Today, our phones have replaced albums and we rarely print the pictures we take. At Remember When Portraits, however, owner and photographer April Sova is capturing memories and creating outstanding portrait art.
“Today, too many photos just reside in our phones and that makes me sad,” April reflects. “I want to provide a product that will last 100 years and be a cherished part of a family’s history.”
“I’ve always loved pictures,” April adds. “With my first daughter, I put a disposable camera in her diaper bag and her teachers would take pictures of memorable things during the day.”
Remember When Portraits opened in 2015. The welcoming studio for children and families features two shooting rooms, private spaces for hair, makeup and clothing changes, handicap accessibility, sitting and viewing areas, and many backdrops and props. Clients are provided the best available products sourced from around the world. For example, only museum-grade hand-painted Guild canvasses are offered for 2-inch gallery wraps, creating superior pieces of art.
April explains that a great portrait begins with preparing well for the photo session. Each client receives a welcome packet that guides them through the entire process and are offered all needed services to make the session a success. “The goal is for everyone to be comfortable on the day of the shoot and to trust me. When that happens, the magic happens,” April notes.
In January 2018, April began pursuing accreditation from the prestigious Portrait Masters Awards program. She explains, “The photography industry is not regulated, so anyone can call themselves a photographer. I pursued recognition from the Portrait Masters to validate my work. My clients can be assured that I am an accomplished professional, consistently providing a high quality product.”
After four years of submissions, 55 of her portraits were awarded bronze medals and she attained the Portrait Masters Associate level in November 2021. April is the only photographer in the Greater Cincinnati area who has achieved this recognition!
Reflecting on her work, she shares, “I love working with people of all abilities and backgrounds. I am humbled and honored to be part of each client’s memory creation experience. My goal with every photograph is to preserve today’s moments for tomorrow’s enjoyment.”
