Erin Kaphan has been a barber for over 12 years and is a thinning hair specialist. She's been working in Bergen County since 2015 and recently opened a single guest, private studio called The Barber Room by Erin at 648 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park.
What led you to be a barber rather than a woman's stylist?
Barbering and men's grooming have always been intriguing to me. I have childhood memories of rising early in the morning to watch my father prepare for work. Now, my interests are more aligned with those of men. You'll find me on a golf course or racing cars rather than shopping or binging romantic comedies!
What's an appointment like for a first-timer?
Guests enjoy the calm of the space and the quiet, clean ambiance. We begin with a thorough consultation. For a haircut, we shampoo in a basin that raises and lowers for comfort. Our dual filtration nozzle removes all sediment in the water. After a wash and scalp massage, I cut the hair and follow-up with a steamed towel, a straight razor clean-up, and style to my guest's desired look.
What makes the Barber Room a unique experience for your clients?
It's a one-on-one, professional-to-guest experience. There are no distractions and no wait time. Guests have the space all to themselves to discuss concerns in a confidential manner. The vibe is your choice, from quiet music and a cup of hot tea to heavy metal and a cold beer or bourbon neat. It's your time and space to enjoy how you like.
