In the heart of Bellevue, there is the International Ballet Academy (IBA), where children from ages as young as 12 months to 18 years old can nurture their creativity and self-expression through the beauty of dance. Founded by Artistic Director Mrs. Vera Altunina, IBA allows dancers to discover their artistry and sense of self, all while learning determination, discipline, accountability, and cultural sensitivity. IBA works tirelessly to strengthen their mission to create beauty by supporting its students artistically, physically, emotionally, and mentally, promoting civic engagement, social cohesion, and deeper cultural understanding. Even though IBA’s foundation is built on traditional dance, they strive to create new art that can flourish in the present day. Their mission is to be a mindful contributor to modern culture, not only through well-established dance programs taught by world-renowned faculty, but also by working in unison with families to give all students the tools necessary to thrive.
Throughout the academic year and summer programs, IBA students experience the arts by showcasing their talent and the artistry of the academy through its non-profit organization, The International Ballet Theater (IBT).
In 2024, IBA and IBT celebrated their 23rd anniversary. Our Eastside community was delighted by visiting guest dancers and local artists in IBT's traditional Nutcracker and Giselle performances and by IBT’s original production of Dracula. The IBT for Children productions sparked the imaginations of our younger community members and IBA's annual Stars of Tomorrow showcase revealed the dedication and beauty of our dancers.
Year after year, IBA students continue to represent the beauty of future generations. They are the face of inspiration, showing us the possibilities of being extraordinary and the essence of our humanity—the arts.
