The Community Food Pantry of McKinney

Serving Those in Need

Proving it is never too late to learn new ways to skin a cat— or, in this case, feed people who are going through tough times for whatever reason, the Community Food Pantry in McKinney is changing to better serve the community.

They found that their method of providing food in a manner that required a stringent application process to be less than optimal. To date it was simply handing out bags of food that included things such as bread and peanut butter, as well as other non-perishable products. However, now they are going to change to a more outward-looking approach and focus on things like senior citizen centers and students and children while focusing on a healthy balance of products delivered.

Although the Pantry has the infrastructure and donations to support the change, donations, either food or cash, as well as volunteers are always welcome. Currently, the needs are for fruit cups, protein bars, and more as they build up supplies for the student outreach program. The Pantry is also partnering with City Church, a church for children only. As you consider donating, please remember that cash will provide extra flexibility .

The Community Food Pantry of McKinney is a 501(c)3 organization. To donate, drop 307 Smith Street or call 972-547-4404

Traci Hutchins serves as a member of the Board of Directors. She says she has “Found it’s been a blessing to her as well as to those served.” While her husband, Tim, is busy at Hutchins Barbecue, their three adult children had always been involved with the Pantry as well. Hannah, 23, now studying architecture and is also an artist. Collin, 24, works in San Antonio for JB Hunt and is an aspiring actor. Adam is following his family’s tradition of helping and is a missionary. All have worked at least part-time at the Pantry. All volunteers and those who donate are very much appreciated, so chip in for this worthy cause
