The Dryes, a North Carolina native husband and wife duo, are an upcoming force to be reckoned with in Country Music. They have put in blood, sweat, and tears in Nashville to make a name for themselves through raw emotion and their love of all things Country. As most people know, making yourself stand out in the vast sea of aspiring artists in this town is never easy, but these two have had a steady climb of success that has them rising to the top.
Way back at the age of four, Katelyn stood on a stage for the first time. She always knew that music was her passion, and her voice always had that star quality twang. She grew up singing with her family most Sundays at church. Music was as much a part of her life as eating and sleeping even then.
When he first picked up a guitar, Derek found his love of music at around 14 years old. He then fell in love with Stevie Ray Vaughn, a huge inspiration for him. The love of music runs deep; he learned a few years later from his dad that his mother, who died of suicide when Derek was only eight months old, used to listen to Stevie Ray when she was pregnant with Derek. You could say his mother planted the seed for his love of music before he was born.
Katelyn and Derek met right out of high school while surrounded by talented musicians and a mutual love for music. When The Dryes moved to Nashville in 2014, They settled temporarily into Hermitage while getting their bearings and determining where they wanted to plant roots. They both worked numerous jobs to pay their bills while constantly working on their music. Today, they continue that hard work, consistently working on new singles and music videos. Their first single, "Amen," landed them in the top ten best country songs of the week, June 8, 2018, in Rolling Stone, a pivotal moment in their career. Their most recent music video, "Dolly Would,” made it to #1 several weeks in a row on CMT. The Dryes are also known for their hit singles "War," "Take you Dancing," and "White's Creek," a song about their new home, featured in People Magazine. This month, they are also expecting the exciting release of their new single "House on Fire," which Katelyn says is the most authentic song they've ever put out. You can anticipate the emotion that draws you into their lives and makes you feel everything they felt when they wrote it; each song is a tiny window into their lives. "War," a 2018 single, has an emotionally charged music video featuring raw footage of Katelyn and Derek as babies and growing up, including a video of Derek's mother. Uncovering these videos was the first time he had ever seen her move or heard her voice; all he had ever seen were pictures of her.
The Dryes music ranges from upbeat, get up and dance tunes to songs that have you emotionally invested. They are bringing back the true roots of Country with their classic sound and sing-a-long hits that make you want more. Make sure you download their newest single and catch their next show on Feb 5th at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville, where you will be sure to get up, and dance front row as The Dryes make the room come alive. https://www.thedryes.com/
