A Man's Place is in the (outdoor) kitchen

Naples weather allows residents to enjoy their backyards year round. That means an outdoor kitchen is a must. Ruth Schuster has been creating beautiful homes in the greater Naples area for more than 28 years. “I’d have to say nearly every client I meet with asks for an outdoor kitchen design. It’s ideal for entertaining and creates a space for all to gather. When I ask men what they are looking for, it isn’t necessarily an area where they want to be able to show off their culinary skills. It’s more of a place to hang out with their buddies and sharing a few beers.” Schuster was going for the ‘wow’ factor when designing this Naples open air kitchen. The lighting sconces and backsplash really make a statement. The backsplash, ten feet in height, is made of concrete hexagon tile, giving the area a vintage look that almost appears new again and you can see it from every part of the house. The appliances, including the 36” gas grill, are stainless steel. The countertops are granite. The stucco on the hood vent matches the house, giving it a clean look. The client wanted the exterior of their home to follow the interior. And they wanted teak furniture. Schuster says natural teak is durable and naturally water resistant, making it a good choice. It doesn’t need to be sealed or stained. It weathers beautifully, aging to a silvery grey tone. Schuster selected Cypress Tongue and Groove solid wood paneling for the overhead ceiling. Once it ages, it will mirror the dining table in color. “The outdoor kitchen is the new ‘man-cave.’ There is really no limit to what you can do.” www.ruthschusterinteriors.com
