Progressive Jazz Invades Eden Prairie

Have you noticed all the big jazz bands at Staring Lake this year? It seems like this new step in music is not only taking hold in Eden Prairie but also throughout the state of Minnesota.

With more than seven Jazz venues such as the Dakota, Crooners and Artists Quarter, Minnesotans are flocking to a regeneration of the big bands for progressive jazz music and entertainment.

West Coast Jazz, a new radio program produced and hosted by Bob “Vaughn” Norberg, has arrived.

Vaughn grew up in the Los Angeles area and studied music (saxophone) from elementary school through
college. He and his father, who played with such bands as Glenn Miller and the Vaughn Monroe Orchestra (Vaughn’s godfather), used to hang out with the Johnny Carson Tonight Show band members as they jammed at Dante’s jazz club in Hollywood.

He plans to bring the show live to several locations here locally as well as on the internet via podcast so local listeners and jazz lovers across the world can listen and enjoy this style of jazz come rain or shine or at home in their easy chairs.

The first appearance of West Coast Jazz in Eden Prairie on July 27 was at Bobby and Steve’s Auto World. Vaughn assures us that jazz lovers will be seeing many more on location jazz fests in the near future.

He also told us to tell our readers: “This is not elevator music, Dorothy”.

We will keep you posted on the upcoming locations for an in person visit with West Coast Jazz.

Check out West Coast Jazz on Facebook for up-to-date show information and appearance locations.
