The John Cooper School Receives Tommy Tune Award Nominations

The John Cooper School is thrilled to announce that its Upper School theater production has been nominated for several Tommy Tune Awards, recognizing exceptional achievements in high school musical theater across the Greater Houston area.

Presented by Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS), the Tommy Tune Awards celebrate excellence in 19 performance and production categories. This year saw a record-breaking 80 schools participate, making these nominations even more meaningful.

The John Cooper School is honored to be recognized in the following categories:

• Outstanding Ensemble

• Outstanding Technical Achievement

• Outstanding Lighting Design – Joshua Heerssen

• Outstanding Scenic Design – Steven Bogard

• Outstanding Costume Design – Laura Targett

• Outstanding Actor – Harrison Kulis as “Elisha Whitney,” Ian Endom as “Moonface Martin”

• Outstanding Stage Management – Zuri Bryson, Natasha Machnizh, Sarah Pomasl

“These nominations are a testament to the incredible dedication, creativity, and teamwork of our students and faculty,” said Ashley Cooper, Performing Arts Department Chair at The John Cooper School. “To be recognized in such a competitive field is an honor – and to receive these nominations is simply extraordinary.”

In addition to these accolades, select students will have the opportunity to perform live at the Tommy Tune Awards Ceremony at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts on June 6, 2025, sharing the stage with some of the most talented young performers in the region.
