When most people go on vacation, they’re looking for an escape from reality. It's a time carved out of our busy schedules when we shed our responsibilities and simply enjoy ourselves, taking part in the activities we most enjoy. That said, some aspects of a typical vacation can be stressful… like keeping track of how much you're spending.
For Kim Huber, a travel advisor and owner of Cruise Planners - Adventures and Cruises, the best way to avoid all that stress is by booking a vacation at an all-inclusive resort, where you pay upfront and everything – meals, drinks, activities, tips… everything – is covered.
“From the moment you check in to the moment you leave, you can leave your cash and credit cards in your wallet," Kim said. “That's really the appeal of an all-inclusive resort, the convenience. You don't have to worry about things like ‘Should I have the steak for dinner?' or ‘Do I want to pay for another drink?’ It's way more relaxing because it's worry-free in terms of cost. You've already paid for everything up front.”
According to Kim, her role as a travel advisor is to make sure her clients sidestep some common problems that can come up when they try to book an all-inclusive resort themselves.
“Sometimes people think these resorts are all alike, but they're not,” she said. “If you're trying to plan a romantic vacation with your spouse, you don't want to end up at a family resort where there are lots of children.”
Other problems can also get in the way of an enjoyable vacation experience, she added.
“I've had it happen where people booked a resort on their own through a travel website and didn't read the resort’s main page, then found out that half the resort was undergoing construction. They thought they got a great rate, but couldn't do a lot of what they wanted to because it wasn't available.”
