Men's Mental Health

If phrases like “Man up,” or “Be a man” feel familiar to the vernacular used when you were young or something you live by as an adult, Taylor Draper of Inherent Clothier can relate.

Taylor spent most of his life clinging to words like these because it’s what he knew. He heard them as though they were pillars of strength to draw from in the hard times that would allow him to arise, to overcome.

A handful of years ago Taylor found his home life in ruins and his personal state suffering. He was inundated with work that was more stressful than satisfying.

In the midst of a pivotal time, Taylor found himself beside his wife in marriage counseling. For the first time, he started to vocalize some of these ideals and began realizing that their impact had detrimentally prevented him from speaking of his sufferings. As Taylor began to do the opposite of what was ingrained in him – speaking through the bothersome moments, the heavy moments, the situations that were causing heartache and real strife – Taylor felt the weight lifting.

The culmination of all things in that season allowed him to see that his own mental health had been sacrificed by way of a facade of strength. It was time to pause and find new rhythms, new words to live by.

Inherent Clothier Was Born

While working through the hardships of his entrepreneurial life, marriage, and individual life struggles, Taylor found himself starting each new day by dressing well. This simple adjustment, a minor tweak, offered a healthy feeling. It eventually bore his new company, Inherent Clothier, where he now pours his heart and soul.

Feeling fresh and restored by wearing different fabrics, patterns and cuts, he grew curious. Did any studies offer factual premise around the correlation of mental wellness and getting dressed? Sure enough, he found a plethora of information.

Since those early days, Taylor has worked tirelessly to promote awareness regarding the lack of attention men tend to pay to their mental health. He's helping to incubate safe spaces and give permission for men to help process life through their words.

Inherent Clothier is the manifestation of this combination and it is creating real change. Taylor Draper is creating a movement and wearing it well.
