The Muny Premieres Four New Shows, Brings Back Favorites

Bravo To The St. Louis Municipal Opera Theatre's 105th Season

One of the most iconic and historic St. Louis activities to enjoy with family and friends every summer is The St. Louis Municipal Opera Theatre.

The Muny’s 105th Season is bursting with premieres, comedies, romance and magic! The 2023 season kicks off with The Muny premiere of Beautiful: The Carole King Story (June 12-18), followed by the Muny favorite, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (June 22–30); Chess makes its Muny premiere, in partnership with the World Chess Hall of Fame and Saint Louis Chess Club (July 5–11); the epic love story, West Side Story returns to the Muny stage (July 15–21); also returning to the stage after over a decade is the comedy to die for, Little Shop of Horrors (July 25–31); the long-awaited Muny premiere of Rent finally arrives (August 4–10) and the grand finale of the season is the divine musical comedy, Sister Act (August 14–20).

Single tickets go on sale May 22.

“We are featuring a premier collection of artists, many of whom have created great work on our stage in the past,” says Muny Artistic Director and Executive Producer Mike Isaacson. “Our 2023 season promises to be a wonderful adventure for our audience and our community, and I can’t wait for June!”

One of the greatest gifts we have is the opportunity to ask our audience what productions they want to see each year and from my earliest days as an usher, and still now, I am always excited by our audience’s energy around the season survey,” says Muny President and CEO Kwofe Coleman. “That excitement is doubled and the relationship with the audience only deepened in a year like this where we will be presenting so many of the most requested productions from the survey."

"Season 105 will be a thrilling journey that we cannot wait to go on with our audience,” adds Kwofe.

Don’t forget to show up early for the Preshow Festival prior to each Muny show, from 6:45-8 p.m. Each summer, The Muny welcomes more than 100 community organizations, theatre troupes and musical acts for preshow entertainment. What better way to kick off a night at the theatre than by supporting St. Louis’ bustling arts scene? As a matter of fact, City Lifestyle magazines will be hosting a pre-show on June 29, so please mark your calendars for that.

Muny guests can treat themselves to dinner before the show at one of The Muny’s cafes or unpack a picnic on the grass. Several picnic tables are located around the grounds, but guests may want to bring an extra-large blanket just in case.

Café One’s menu at The Muny features a delicious blend of grab-and-go favorites, such as pizzas, sandwiches, finger foods and frozen treats.

And the new Culver Pavilion is now available for dining, including a walk-up service with signature cocktails from the bar and a selection of self-serve gourmet hors d’ oeuvres, as well as the new dining experience featuring bistro-style seating and delicious charcuterie selections, hot appetizers and vegetarian options. Dine under this covered pavilion surrounded by the beautiful sights of Forest Park and enjoy live music and entertainment from the East Pre-show Stage.

It’s sure to be another great season under the stars at The Muny. For tickets or more information, visit Muny.org or call 314.361.1900.
