Why are you reading this article? Hmmm! Is it because you've read one of my previous articles and would like to read this, too? Are you a first-time reader and just curious, or are you a seasoned tutor or educator who finds value in my weekly articles? If all these questions got you thinking, that is a feel of the "Socratic Method of Learning." A child's two most important days are his/her birthday and the day they discover the word "WHY."
"Education is from the Latin word Edu—care, which means to draw knowledge from within."
The Socratic Method of Education is an interactive learning model that seeks to disseminate knowledge and foster critical thinking. Picture a classroom with a teacher in front dispensing knowledge. In contrast, a school where the teacher promotes a Q&A in which all the classroom members get to participate. Which of these two classrooms would allow more learning, and WHY?
In this article, I'll end most of the paragraphs with "WHY" as a practical exercise to apply this learning model effectively. The Socratic Model requires deeper-level questions that encourage reasoning and critical thinking. What and When questions are surface-level questions and are very good for starting the process of the Socratic Method, and then BOOM! The "WHY "comes in to take you on a deep dive that'll give you that pensive look of Socrates.
