The Sofa Guy

2 Decades of Style in the Conejo Valley

As the owners of The Sofa Guy, Paul and Holly Trent provide a long-lasting, extraordinary experience for clients in a warm, friendly and knowledgeable environment.

“What makes us unique is our attention to our clients’ comfort and design needs,” says Paul, whose business has been established for more than 2 decades.

“It’s not one size fits all,” Paul emphasizes.

“We spend a lot of time in our showroom helping our clients find their unique comfort. It may be back pitch, firmness or softness, seat depth or seat height. Our showroom has many different styles and variety of cushions that we use as tools, moving them from frame to frame if necessary. Once we have their unique comfort, configuring pieces in the space is easy.”

Paul and Holly started the family-owned business with custom sofas and have evolved into a local interior design team that helps clients furnish their entire home—or homes, in some cases.

Located at 2520 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., “our space is filled with beautiful pieces from all our vendors, as well as our own custom upholstery,” he says. In this space, “we are passionate about serving, helping and solving problems. We have been doing it for 20 years with upholstery, so why not do it with all aspects of the home?”

One of the most popular services they offer is the old-fashioned house call. This service guarantees that any piece they make will actually fit the space.

“It gives us and our clients peace of mind knowing that the configuration they order will fit perfectly into their home,” Paul explains. “Often our clients need help with their complete rooms or their entire home, and we have all the amazing design resources to fulfill their needs.”

Origin Story

Flashback to 1996, when the Trent couple opened their first furniture store with a business partner in Venice Beach called Philip Paul Designs. From the original store in Venice Beach, they changed their name to Welcome Home Interiors.

“When we described what we do, people would say, ‘Oh the Sofa Guy! My neighbor just bought a sectional from you guys…or something similar,” Paul recalls. “We got that so often we finally gave in. We figured it’s simple, memorable and a little goofy. We embraced the moniker and today we are The Sofa Guy Inc.”

The Trent couple moved their business to Thousand Oaks in 2003.

“I actually started out of my garage,” Paul remembers. “I would go to clients’ homes with fabrics and pictures, have my guys build the pieces, and then personally delivered them in my pick-up truck.”

They have since moved the business out of the house and into the Westlake Design Center, and in 2013, they made their big move to Thousand Oaks Boulevard.

“We hope to be able to add more stores in the future and continue to serve the Conejo Valley,” Paul says.

Placing their client’s needs first, they consistently strive to deliver exceptional customer service and furnishings of the highest quality.

“It’s really not about the sale; I mean yes, we need sales to survive, but really, we want the experience to be a joyful process without any pressure,” Paul adds. “Our showroom is set up to feel relaxed and comfortable; our staff often welcomes you with ‘make yourself at home’…hopefully, bringing just a little peace to this over-anxious world of ours.”
