On Saturday, June 1, The Twenty Pearls Foundation, the nonprofit affiliate of Tau Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, awarded $35,000 in scholarships to 16 local students at its annual Pearls of Excellence Scholarship Recognition Program. The program was held at the historic Auburn Avenue Research Library.
Established in 2003 as a 501(c)(3) organization, the mission of The Twenty Pearls Foundation, Inc. is to support the educational, leadership and philanthropic program initiatives that Tau Epsilon Omega provides for East Point, College Park, and South Fulton County. Students who graduate from a South Fulton County high school or who reside in East Point, College Park or the City of South Fulton are eligible for these scholarships. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded over $300,000 in scholarships.
Twelve high school graduates received the Robbie Clark Academic Scholarship: Julian Woods, John Igiebo, Dae’Shawn Taylor, Adin Bryn Burwell, Fryda Cortes, Janay Walker, Morgan Hill, Alexis Jacobs, Kennedy Harris, Regan Glass, Alxia Cainion and Monique Edwards. Menyon Walton of Atlanta Technical College received the Pauline Wright Culinary Scholarship. Kimberlyn Hayes, Jade Allen and Aria Shelton received an HBCU scholarship for students currently enrolled full time at a Historically Black College or University who are permanent residents of our service area.
In addition, the Foundation recognized 6th grader Aleah Lightfoot, the winner of the Carte Blanche! Arts Contest conducted by the organization at Camp Creek Middle School this past spring.
Finally, the graduating participants of Tau Epsilon Omega’s Post-Secondary Advancement College and Career Enrichment (PACE) Program were awarded book scholarships in recognition of their successful completion of the program.
