Baltimore is a one-of-a-kind city that offers a variety of different entertainment, educational, and general tourist attractions. As the largest city in the state of Maryland, Baltimore has a great deal to offer.

It takes a long time to see everything there is to see. Even if you've been a long-time Baltimore resident, you probably haven't experienced everything your city has to offer yet!

You might be looking for ideas on more great ways to spend your time in Baltimore. You should never have to run out of things to do in this massive metropolis. Sight-seeing and entertainment options are basically endless in this city that's buzzing with energy and activity.

Sporting Events

Perhaps the most well-known sporting venue in the city is Oriole Park at Camden Yards. This is where the city's baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles, plays during the summertime baseball season. If you prefer to watch a football game, head to the M&T Bank Stadium located on Russell Street between the Pigtown and South Baltimore areas. 

Educational outings

Baltimore is a city with its fair share of museums and other educational sites. If you're interested in art, you shouldn't miss the Baltimore Museum of Art, which is located by the Johns Hopkins University campus.

Baltimore is also home to probably one of the best places in the country for those who are interested in aquatic life. The National Aquarium in Baltimore located in the Inner Harbor is a popular destination in the city that hosts around 1.5 million visitors every year. 

Dining

Those in Baltimore should never have to go hungry. You can get just about any kind of food you're in the mood for in Baltimore.

In particular, Baltimore is a great place for seafood. If you're in the mood for seafood, the place to be is the Inner Harbor or the Fell's Point neighborhood which is located nearby. Here you'll find some of the top seafood restaurants in Baltimore like The Oceanaire Seafood Room on Aliceanna Street. 

If you're looking for some of the best spots for international cuisine in the city, head to the Mount Vernon district, which is found just to the north of the downtown area.

There are a lot of family activities you can enjoy in Baltimore if you've got a pack of youngsters to entertain. In addition to the city's sporting events, kids of all ages also tend to enjoy the National Aquarium.

Children and teenagers can be entertained by and benefit from the many educational attractions at the Aquarium. If you find yourself in Baltimore on a Sunday, you can take advantage of Free Family Sundays at the Baltimore Museum of Art. You can also take the kids out on a paddle boat tour of the Inner Harbor with the Chessie Dragon paddleboats

One of the more recent additions to Inner Harbor attractions in Baltimore is the Pirate Ships of Baltimore. This is definitely an adventurous new attraction in the city that the kids will love!

The Pirate Ships of Baltimore consists of 12 solar-powered Pirate Ships that give tours around the Inner Harbor from the Living Classrooms Foundation dock that's located near the National Aquarium. 

If you've got toddlers or young children with you, you might want to check out the Port Discovery Children's Museum. This Baltimore museum is located in the Inner Harbor and features interactive science exhibits that are perfect for young children. 

Things to do in Baltimore for adults: Night on the Town

Adults looking for stuff to do in Baltimore can enjoy the many performing arts attractions. For example, the Baltimore Soundstage is located in the Inner Harbor area. This music venue is a great spot to head to for performances by artists that are touring nationally.

Those interested in seeing a show can head to the Hippodrome Theatre. The Hippodrome Theatre is found in downtown Baltimore and has a long history of entertaining those in the city after having opened originally back in 1914. 

Adults looking for an evening of excitement can check out the Charm City Clue Room. This is an escape room that is located right in the Power Plant Live! building in central Baltimore.

This is a great attraction for those who like to solve puzzles and compete with friends in a test of wits. 

Other possibilities for adult entertainment in Baltimore include dancing and mingling at any of the numerous dance clubs and night clubs located in the downtown area. 

Don’t Break the Bank: Free and cheap things to do

Those looking for something free to do to experience Baltimore can head to Patterson Park. Patterson Park is found in the southeast of the city.

This park was established back in the 1820s and has been giving residents and visitors in Baltimore the chance to enjoy the outdoors ever since. There are numerous attractions within the park, including walking paths, playgrounds, sports fields, and a lake.

Enjoying these attractions can make for a very cheap yet very charming afternoon in Baltimore. Other parks in and around Baltimore that offer free entertainment include Druid Hill Park and Federal Hill Park

For other inexpensive things to do, it's important to note that many arts centers and museums offer free exhibitions.

For example, The Walters Art Museum located in the Mount Vernon-Belvedere area offers free admission. This is a public art museum that has been open since 1934. It features a wide variety of artworks in its permanent collection including ancient, Asian, Islamic, Medieval, and Renaissance art. The museum also features 19th-century artworks from Europe. 

Things to Do in Downtown Baltimore

Downtown Baltimore is definitely the part of the city with the most activity and attractions. Simply walking around downtown can provide views of some of the city's most famous structures and monuments like the Legg Mason Building, the Battle Monument on North Calvert Street, and the Baltimore Basilica on Cathedral Street. 

Downtown Baltimore also offers a few shopping destinations. For example, shoppers can head to The Gallery at Harborplace. This shopping complex on East Pratt Street offers many shopping and dining opportunities. It also offers a Ripley's Believe It or Not! for those looking for a nearby entertainment feature. 

Things to do in Baltimore at night: Stay Up and Have Fun

Baltimore doesn't cease to be an entertaining and energetic city at the end of the day. There are plenty of things to do at night as well! If you want to enjoy a beautiful view of the city at night, try a Spirit of Baltimore dinner cruise.

This is a great way to feast on fabulous food while taking in beautiful nighttime views of the Inner Harbor. 

There is also plenty of nightlife in the city. Try one of Baltimore's bars or restaurants by heading to the Fells Point neighborhood after the sun goes down. This is a great part of the city for a bar crawl. 

Romantic Things to Do in Baltimore for your Girlfriend/Boyfriend

Baltimore is definitely a city for couples if you're looking for romance. The city has some very romantic restaurants, parks, hotels, and attractions. The Four Seasons Hotel on the Inner Harbor is a very romantic spot for a couple's stay. The hotel features a gorgeous outdoor pool and a luxurious day spa. 

One great spot for a romantic dinner date is Sotto Sopra on North Charles Street. This Italian restaurant is just to the north of the Harbor area. It's located in a beautiful old building that dates to the 19th century. 

Looking for Unique? Cool Things to Do in Baltimore

You have a lot of options if you're interested in a really unique and unusual experience in the city of Baltimore. If you're a fan of literature, you might want to check out the grave of Edgar Allan Poe.

The 19th-century poet has had a big impact on the city where he died in 1849. In fact, Baltimore's NFL team is named after one of his poems, "The Raven." Poe's grave is located on the campus of the University of Baltimore. 

Another unique Baltimore attraction is the American Visionary Art Museum. This museum features the works of artists who made some really original creations. If you find the average art museum boring and predictable, don't miss this one-of-a-kind Baltimore attraction. 

Indoor or outdoor things to do

If you're looking for an attraction with the flexibility to be enjoyed indoors or outdoors, check out the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine. This is a great spot for those with an interest in history. You probably recognize the name Fort McHenry from history class.

This is where Francis Scott Key was inspired to write our national anthem in 1814. These days, visitors can tour the fort and learn about the Battle of Baltimore. The site includes both indoor and outdoor exhibits.

Guests can also view a 10-minute orientation film on the site that explains the historical events that took place there during the War of 1812.
